Things to do in the Portland area?

Recommended Posts

We are going to Portland/Tigard for my nephew's wedding in mid July. We will be staying for approximately 4 days. Can anyone give me fun, educational things to do in the area? We don't mind traveling up to 30 miles away from the area. We will be traveling with my mother and father-in-law, so we don't want things that are too babyish or things that take all day (such as a theme park).

Any suggestions are welcome and helpful. :bigear:

Thanks!

Well here's a few to get you started......

Oregon Museum of Science and Energy - http://www.omsi.edu/ This is my boys' favorite place to go.

Oregon Zoo - http://www.oregonzoo.org/

Portland Children's Museum - http://www.portlandcm.org/

The World Forestry Center - http://www.worldforestry.org/

Portland Japanese Garden - http://www.japanesegarden.com/

Portland International Rose Test Garden - http://www.rosegardenstore.org/thegardens.cfm

Forest Park - http://www.portlandonline.com/parks/finder/index.cfm?PropertyID=127&action=ViewPark

The Portland Farmer's Market - http://www.portlandfarmersmarket.org/

BTW...This is the summer of the dinosaur in Portland, so all major attractions have special dinosaur related activities and exhibits.

While it is more than 30-miles, I would definitely recommend a trip to Canon Beach or Seaside - it is an easy day trip.

If you are interested in more outdoor activities such as hiking, let me know, and I'll put together a list for you. You could spend months just doing that :)

All three of these have reciprocal agreements with other zoos, children's museums and science museums. Check your memberships to see if you can get free admission.
