happyhomemaker25
I have a big ole ham bone and I don't really know what to do with it. I used to make split pea soup with it, but my family really hates split pea soup. I was going to use it for lentils, but I just checked and I'm out of lentils and a store run is not in my future. What do you do with a ham bone??
*Lulu*
In your case, freeze it until lentils are back in the house. Or cook it with some other beans that your family will eat.
Ellie
My grandmother made hambone soup: cover with water, add a chopped onion, celery seed (it doesn't taste right without the celery seed, lol), a can of whole tomatoes and a can of tomato sauce. When the meat is all cooked off the bone, add a cup or so of rice, and cook until the rice is done.
AK_Mom4
Drop the hambone in a crockpot or dutch oven. Cover with dry red kidney beans. Put a layer of onions and sprinkle in some garlic powder (just a little). Fill pot with water until beans are covered. Cook all dy on low heat. Yum!!!! brendag
Lima bean, navy bean, potato, or black bean soup. Hoppin' John. You can also freeze it for later like someone else mentioned. Brenda
