simka2
Well, we just drove to waaaaay south houston to pick up dh's new little car. Pulled intp the tax assesor parking lot, turned off the van and when I went to turn on it would not start. :glare: it will take a jump but not stay running. So, that leads me to think alternator. I really just want to cry, but it could be worse. It is a beautiful southern day, we have a new great micro car and there was a mechanic right across the street. Okay, vent over. :D Edited December 27, 2011 by simka2
Lara in Colo
or a simple connection to the alternator.:)
lailasmum
Could it be a dud battery. We had a lot of shananigans with dh's car this year that turned out to mostly be a battery problem with a touch of ancient starter motor. The battery was just old. Ended up going through the entire system replacing bits which would work for a few weeks and then not.
simka2
or a simple connection to the alternator.:) I hope so! And we did ask them to check all the connectors. The van has over200K on it, but we did have it well serviced about 4 months ago. We shall see.

GoVanGogh
Battery is a year old, but you never know.We have had a number of dud batteries over the years in Texas. They normally die after a hot summer and around the time of the first cold snap. Something about those extremes makes them fizzle out early.Hope it is nothing major. :grouphug:
elegantlion
It could be the connections or the battery. In the hot humid climate, I wouldn't be surprised. We had some of those issues when we were down that way.
simka2
Well the alternator sucked thebattery dry and then killed itself. :glare:
justamouse
I am in awe that you could possibly diagnose your own car. I'm still at the stage of making similar noises. :D
