mom2jjka
I am considering adding this to our math line up, but I've never used TT before. Do I need to purchase the textbook, or would we be able to do the lessons just on the computer - figuring out the computations in a notebook? HollyDay
My dd preferred to use the textbook along with the computer. But, you should be able to use a notebook just fine
Chrysalis Academy
We're only using TT5, but so far my dd hasn't cracked the text at all - she does it on the computer and uses notebook paper on the side.
DragonFaerie
I have two kids using TT4. DS prefers doing his work in the workbook and then typing all his answers into the software. DD, on the other hand, prefers to do all her work on the computer and just keeps a scratch notebook handy for anything she can't do in her head. In fact, for TT5, I'll be buying just one workbook for DS and will let DD work in her notebook instead.
luvnlattes
I have one using TT5 and one using TT7. Neither uses the textbook at all and haven't in the previous levels of TT that they've completed. Z-man will start pre-Algebra in January so I don't know if anything will change once he starts. Beth in SW WA
Dd does not write in her TT prealg text. Working out the problems takes up a lot of space on lined or graph paper. ETA: We don't need the text at this level but it is handy for me to reference. Edited December 31, 2011 by Beth in SW WA
Shellers
My DS is finishing up TT5 and he uses the textbook everyday. After figuring out the solution to a problem he enters the answer into the software.
DragonFaerie
It may just really come down to preference.
Mallorie
Which child are you considering this for? I ask because I see that you are using CLE Math, and if you are just finishing either the 700 or 800 series with your 14 y/o, TT pre-algebra would not be new material. I would go to TT Algebra, or another curriculum altogether. Take the placement test. Check out the high school forums, I recently asked about high school maths after CLE myself. We are trialing Lial's Algebra, after having completed CLE 700. It looks to be about right.
