Guest dschetz
I just started re-reading Well Educated Mind and am ready to start on a reading program, beginning with her suggestion of Don Quixote. Is there anyone else out there planning to start their self-education with the new year? I'd like to find someone who has time set aside for their own personal studies and is excited about studying the Great Books and Classics in general. I am a homeschool mom in UT and would love to correspond with another homeschool mother via email about the readings. Thanks! Dionne
flyingiguana
I've always thought it would be fun to keep these discussions up on this board so more of us can join in. Seems like people always find a partner and the rest of us get left out. But I'm unwilling to BE the partner because I'm afraid I'll drop the ball. Guest dschetz
That's a great idea! I will try it when I get started...my book should be here soon! THanks, Dionne
Rosie_0801
If you're not wedded to beginning with Don Quixote, there's a bunch doing a Shakespeare challenge. January is focusing on Midsummer Night's Dream. http://hivemindshake.webs.com/apps/forums/ Some people on the Reading Challenge thread were planning to tackle (ha) Moby Dick this coming year. You could join in with them too. Rosie

I've got the Putnam Translation and was planning to start it soon. PM me when you are ready to start. I've read the Well Educated Mind, and wouldn't mind a re-reading of it prior to starting the books, so just let me know when you are ready to get started on Quixote. Cleopatra
I'd be interested but not for Don Quixote. I read it once on my own and started again for another WEM group that fizzled out. From experience, even though it would be great to have the discussion on the boards (perhaps a social group), I think it would work best with personal e-mails. Groups are too easy to ignore but when you have someone sending you a personal e-mail, you feel obligated to respond. IMO, the group may work that way ...... I've seen a few go nowhere by trying to administer it here or on yahoo. In any case, if you get past Don Quixote, please pm me; I'd be happy to join from there! :001_smile:
