I just spent $12! :glare:
Yeah, that's about what I spent. These are classic apps that we will definitely use!
Ok, so question: It only lists them as .99. How do you know the original prices?
AppShopper. You can see the entire price history for any app. I almost always refer to it to determine if I am purchasing at the lowest price and how often it is available at that price.

If we have an itunes acct but not an ipad (yet :D) can we buy the ipad versions and then install them later?

Thanks!

I'm not sure, but I think you can. Here's how to try:

1) Open iTunes.

2) Click 'iTunes Store' on the left side of the page.

3) Click 'App Store' at the top center of the main pane.

4) Find the 'Top Charts' section at the middle right of the screen. Click 'See All >' next to 'Paid Apps'.

5) You will see most of the apps I mentioned on this page. You can click the name of the app to learn more about it or simply click the price to purchase it.

6) Click the left arrow at the top left of the screen to get back to the previous page and keep shopping.

7) If you do not see a title that you want to buy, simply type part of the name in the search pane at the top right and press 'Enter' on your keyboard.

One caution: Be careful not to purchase iPhone apps! Make sure the app you are purchasing says that it is for the iPad or for both the iPad and iPhone. When you search, iTunes always lists iPhone apps first, so it is easy to make this mistake.

Good luck!

ETA: If it will let you purchase them, then you definitely CAN install them later.

Thank you very much!
You are welcome! Good luck!

BTW, there is also a list of 'Top Free' apps that you can access in step 4. You might want to go ahead and grab some of those so that they are ready to install someday soon! ;) I'm thinking the internet might get kinda clogged this Christmas morning with all the stuff that needs to be downloaded.

Often the top app or two on the 'Top Free' app list are normally paid and they shoot right to the top of the free chart because they are now free. You can't know for sure until you get your iPad and use AppShopper to check.

Thanks so much!

I bought Battleship for the iPad, and gifted Battleship for the iPhone to both my husband and our 15yo son. I hope my message of Do Not Open Until Christmas and the bunch of blank lines below will give them some self-control to not peek.... I think they'll have a blast playing each other using the wi-fi option.

Next, I got Risk for the iPad.

Finally, Monopoly on the iPad for our Monopoly-loving 11yo son who wants to play more often than anyone else in the family AND has never played the original version. (We have the National Parks version, and the Here and Now iPad version.)

I also got sneaky in order to keep the surprise until Christmas. I removed the apps after buying them, and locked out access to the App Store -- I'll add them back late Christmas Eve!

Reg,

If you are still on, do you think the monthly prices for 3G will drop significantly?

I'd like to get 3G but I think the monthly price is too high.

So I have been debating. I'd hate to not get 3G and have the prices drop but then again I hate to pay for 3G and never use it.

I got Monopoly the other day when it was free...it was a world one or something like that. I have played it WAY too much, lol.
We did, too. The kids LOVE it, but I prefer the classic one since I know the names of all the properties and all the dollar amounts! :tongue_smilie: I bought that one today.

Our children have had success playing with two iPads using a Bluetooth link, but when they tried last night with three iPads using WiFi, it did not work. Has anyone had success with this?

I bought 3G on the first two iPads we purchased, but I regret it since I am too cheap to pay $25/mo. for 2GB of data. I would have rather had more storage space on the devices.

I do think that prices for wireless service will come down over time, but I doubt that will happen fast enough for it to impact purchase decisions for new devices.
