Susie in SWVA
Does anyone have a recipe for hash brown casserole (side dish, not breakfast) that DOES NOT use canned soup? Would you share? Susie in SWVA
silliness7
I've been known to substitute a homemade white sauce for the cream soup in recipes. I *think* it's 3T butter or other fat to 3T flour, season how you like and add 1 cup milk. That should get you the equivalent to a can of cream soup. I got that from Tightwad gazette. I say this assuming you are anti-Campbell's cream soup and not anti-sauce in general. If I'm off-base, please ignore. :D
Susie in SWVA
That is a good idea. Yes, I am against all the junk in canned soups. Susie in SWVA
Susie in SWVA
You all are great! So simple and yet I never thought of it! I do white sauce all the time. In fact in my home ec class, way back when, part of my final exam was to make white sauce. Thanks! Susie in SWVA
