KristenR
What greek myth book should I buy for our home library. Is D'Auillares a good introduction? I'd like to have a nice one that we can "grow" with in our house and I would like to have something to reference constellations as we continue learning about the stars. Ohdanigirl
Yes, D'Auillares is a very good one. My children also enjoyed A Wonder Book for Girls and Boys by Nathaniel Hawthorne. You can find it for free at http://www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=hawthorne&book=wonder&story=_contents. HTH Danielle
scrapbabe
D'Auillares is good. I've been looking at this one for my boys though. It seems more pleasant to look at and I think it would hold my boys' attention better. I think the D'Auillares books can get kind of long. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/157912867X/ref=ox_sc_act_title_10?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
momto2Cs
We love the D'Aulaires book, but the Usborne Greek Myths for Young Children is very nice too.
go_go_gadget
We loved the D'Aulaires'. We also got lots of different ones from the library, but the D'Auliares' was what we always came back to.
Farrar
I think of D'Aulaires' as the gold standard there. There are others that tell the individual tales better, but as a total compendium goes, I don't think it gets any better.
stripe
It does have a coffee table / picture book look, but I admit to owning it.
Alte Veste Academy
Well, I will be little help because I think we own 5. Two of my favorites not mentioned here are the new National Geographic version and Simon and Schuster's volume.
Jay3fer
I'm going to suggest that while D'Aulaire's is a must-have for the family bookshelf and kids who can read on their own, the miniature version of Usborne Greek Myths is one you'll probably get through more easily with kids the age of yours. I saw that a pp recommended Usborne, but I don't know if they have more than one. I like the small size and colourful pictures of this one. We started reading D'Aulaire's and I think I'll come back to it when mine are a bit older. They were fascinated by the amazing pictures, but the stories went a little slower and tend to run together. zenjenn
My kids, and I, love D'Auillares. We are also concurrently reading Percy Jackson. It reinforces their memory of the mythological creatures and characters in a fun way, and also introduces the concept of allusion very strongly. KristenR
Thank you everyone for the great recommendations!!! I'll be checking them out tonight and seeing what is available at our local library. After seeing them all in person I'll decide which one we want to purchase.
