bnrmom
Which one should we start with? I know nothing about either. (Dh designs databases, but he's not around during the day and doesn't want to be on the computer when he gets home.) My boys are 10 and 7 and pretty computer savvy, but have never done any programming. I'm looking for the program that is the most fun for them with the least amount of hassle and frustration for me! Any thoughts on which one to start with? Thanks!

oliveview
I would have them start with Scratch. Alice is geared more toward middle to high school and is more advanced. That's been our experience. My kids love Scratch and will spend as much time on it as I will allow. HTH
Jen in PA
I would try Scratch first. We did it the other way around -- it worked just fine, but I think Scratch is a gentler intro.

starwarsmomma
we started with scratch (10-11 year old loved), then to alice (11 year old hated), then to HTML which he loves.
Guest submarines
There's also Storytelling Alice, for younger kids. It is supposed to appeal to girls, and it does. Scratch has a very active on-line community, which could be a bonus.
