love2read
The other day when I signed a slip with a cashier's pen, I had an insight "I'm grown up now, I too can buy a nice pen with ink that flows smoothly:001_wub: I've been using the cheap bic pens that come in the yellow box, but no more! I didn't look at the cashier's pen, so tell me what you like so I can narrow down the choices.
Mrs Mungo
I use the Pilot G-2 rollerball gel pens with 07mm tip. I buy any color but black. DH has to use black at work and will appropriate any decent black pen in the house. Edited December 14, 2011 by Mrs Mungo
kalanamak
I like Pigma's Micron for any prolonged study effort. For a whip out and use to sign pen (and for notes at work, which have to be ball point)I use Zebras. I've taken to writing letters with my son's Pelikano Junior. Mrs Mungo
Microns are too scritchy for me. There is some sort of negative tactile thing I have against those pens. What kind of zebra?
eternalknot
My favorite pen to use is the Uni-Ball Deluxe Fine ... my brother got me hooked on these years ago, and it's a love affair like no other I've ever experienced. A ballpoint is much easier for my job, so my runner-up is the Zebra F-301 Fine Point (for work). They're so smooth! For me it's less about brand than it is type -- I just love fine points, especially rollerballs, but any fine point will feel better in my hand than any medium point. mazakaal
When I was in college I used to buy nice pens that weren't outrageously expensive. The pens themselves were maybe $8 or so, and I bought refills for them. I can't remember what brand they were anymore. My dad had a Cross pen for years that he just kept getting refills for. More expensive than what I used, but not crazy money if you've got it. eta: I just remembered the name of the pens I loved! Parker. Not as expensive as Cross, but I thought they were great. Angie in VA
My dd and all her debate buddies use the G 2 pens mentioned above. She is getting some for Christmas. (She asked for them!) For our checkbook DH and I use Uniballs (help prevent check fraud), similar to those linked above, but not fine. I love that pen for all writing. DH asked for some for work, and the dc are giving him a pack for Christmas. What a strange, practical family! I bought both the G2 and Uniballs at Costco. LOL! I just realized that *I* asked for Sharpies for Christmas! They were on sale at Staples last week, and I think the kids got me some. (We never have black Sharpies!) What is it with our family and pens?
Down_the_Rabbit_Hole
Sorry I am not going to be any help (although I mostly buy Zebra pens), but this thread has me laughing. My husband will only write with a decent pen, of course he has trouble finding them. One year for his birthday we got him a "nice' pen. Took over an hour to figure out just the perfect pen for him...not too heavy, not to fat/skinny, balance, and of course how it wrote: need to be smooth but not too smooth. When he does have a pen he likes, everyone is forbidden to use it. His PEN is such a major deal that my youngest son wrote a poem in lower elementary about my dh and his pen. ChristyB in TN
Pilot Neo Gel 07. We fight over them at the office.;) I can't seem to find them anywhere or I would buy them by the ton. The lawyer who does most of our closings uses them and gives us a couple every time we close, he knows how we love them and he thinks it is hilarious. I use blue because that's what we have to use for HUD, etc. We are weirdly territorial about our pens and it gets funny.
Ellie
I like a fountain pen, although it doesn't have to be expensive. If not a fountain pen, then a gel pen, because the ink looks like fountain-pen ink, and the pen feels like a fountain pen when I write, plus I can use more pressure on those rare occasions when I'm writing on multiple copies. Pilot is a good brand; it's nice and fat and makes my hand happy. :D

In the Rain
I love these Sharpie pens. Love them, hoard them, hide them - they're MINE!!!! I love fine points, but I've never seen a .3 pen. Are they scratchy? I can't stand scratchy pens. If not, I may have to give them a try!

nukeswife
My dh loves the Uniball micros, we have mass amounts of them in red because in his last duty station that was his assigned color. My kids and I prefer the Pilot Easy Touch retractable ballpoint, but will also use the G2s mentioned by Mrs Mungo.
In the Rain
We have some Bic Pro+ that write smoothly. They are cheap enough to sit around the house for general use.

C_l_e_0..Q_c
Zebra Sarasa http://www.zebrapen.com/products/pen/sarasa?c=28 It's archive quality. " Acid-free & archival quality ink system" It won't fade with time (or fade slower). As I keep Catholic Church archives at my work, it's the pen that I have to use, and I really do like it! Crissy
Truly? I like writing with the fairly cheapo Pilot disposables about as much as any $$$$$ fountain pen I have ever used. My sister writes a lot, and she won't use anything but a classic Bic Cristal.

BamaTanya
Love the Zebra F-301. Fine point. Black. Fine point to write inside tiny spaces (forms or pocket calendars). Black because it's professional (many of my forms had to be in black ink). Skinny enough to fit into the elastic loop of my checkbook or datebook or the slots of my tote. Steel so I know it won't break if I accidentally drop heavy books or files on top of it in my crate or tote. And it has a grip so it doesn't slide around in my hand like other metal pens I've used before. Inexpensive enough to buy a supply for my purse, notepad, totes (I carry different totes to different classes), the kitchen drawer and my desk. That's my pen. It's perfect for me. I had a college student last semester who used the same pen, and I commented that I use it, too. We agreed it's the best. :D
Ellie
I've been wanting to try a fountain pen...what kinds are good? Parker Vector. Parker also makes a Vector roller-ball pen, which is almost as good as a fountain pen.
bookfiend
I've just rediscovered my Waterman fountain pen. I use it at home only. In my purse, I keep a Pilot Precise V5; however, I'm excited to discover all of these new pens! I almost always try to sign anything with my own pen. I don't want to touch that nasty, germ-laden pen they had you with the Visa slip. And don't get me started about having to sign with the stylus on the electronic pad. How many people touch that a day ?! Yuck.
