LarrySanger
Have I got it right? http://larrysanger.org/2011/12/manifesto-for-schools/ This expresses the main reason why we're homeschooling. I mention a fascinating study, reported today in the Atlantic: "Everything You Know About Education Is Wrong."
kubiac
Yes, knowledge is terribly out of fashion. One of the reasons WTM appeals to me, as do a variety of older educational styles, is the emphasis on factual mastery, especially at an early age. There does seem to be a certain shame in our educational system about instructing children, of any age, on practical points of information. I think the country's great terror is that creativity and enterprise will be squelched, when in fact the reverse is likely true: Without a base of knowledge from which to work, a creator has very few building materials with which to construct anything at all!
