wy_kid_wrangler04
.... a good but independent spelling program? Dd 4th is over all a very good speller, but she still needs work. We do Spelling Power but it has been so hard to get to lately. I don't know if there is such thing as an independent spelling program but if there is what is it? I want it to be a good strong program though, kwim? This would be used on those days when we don't get to Spelling Power. Spelling Power would still be our main program. Mommy22alyns
I've only used Spelling Workout A, but I found it to be pretty independent. Rod & Staff spelling looks like it might be that way too.

JadeOrchidSong
We used the FREE Zaner Bloser with my oldest' date=' he was a natural speller, but I felt he needed something to realize he needed to focus on proper spelling in his writing so I wanted a program. On Monday he would write the words, Wednesday he would do the worksheet, Friday I would quickly give him a test. You could easily add in like sentences on Tuesday and something else on Thursday if you needed extra practice. He worked "a grade ahead" if that helps you decide on it. http://www.zaner-bloser.com/media/zb/zaner-bloser/spellingconnections/practice-pages.html[/quote'] This looks great! Thanks! 3monkeys
SS has a DVD version that I believe would be independent. http://www.avko.org/ssdvd.html I use the workbook for my ds because he needs all the handwriting practice he can get! Momling
Have you tried http://www.spellingcity.com. It's certainly independent and could be just the thing to fill in on those days you can't get to your regular program.
Carol in Cal.
Sure, Phonetic Zoo. Absolutely great for an audio learner as well.
Canadianmumof5
I've only used Spelling Workout A, but I found it to be pretty independent. Rod & Staff spelling looks like it might be that way too. :iagree:We've used various levels from A through F and it sounds like it would fit your needs. Zoo Keeper
My two oldest do Rod and Staff (mostly) on their own. I do look over the workbooks and correct any mistakes, and I do give them a test each Friday.
Mandy in TN
Perhaps instead of word lists that she can look through briefly and remember how to spell, you could do something like Spectrum Word Study and Phonics or MCP Word Study to look at how words are built.
