Do I need to spray my daughter's Ugg style boots?

Recommended Posts

So I bought my 7 yo dd a pair of brown Ugg style boots tonight. And yes, I said Ugg style. ;) I didn't pay that much for them but they are real suede. We live in Indiana and it's really rainy right now but we'll be getting plenty of snow soon. What will happen to them if I don't treat them? Do I need to use a leather/suede protector? If I had any I'd use it but since I don't, I'm trying to decide if I have to spend the $ on it. Any experience?

I don't know if you have to, but we taped off the rubber parts and the furry insides, and treated the suede with two very light coats. My daughter has Bear Paws (Ugg types), and they look brand new after wearing them all last winter and for the past month.

We will be re-treating the boots this week.

YES!!! I almost ruined my new boots two years ago. Thankfully I only had a small amount of water damage on the tip of one toe before I realized I needed to treat them. I was able to clean them up, so they look new. I treat mine about once a month with a spray. I think the brand I use is Kiwi.

Another vote for yes. We destroyed Bearpaws two years in a row until my friend who buys Uggs told me about the waterproofing spray last month. She buys her girls Uggs (says she can see a different in arch support and the way they walk, for whatever that's worth to you) and because she sprays them, she's able to hand them down even after a season of constant wear. I added that to my "things I wish I'd known two years ago" list!
