cin
Will this work for basic bread flours? I've been looking around and while the wonder mill looks really cool, I think the kitchen aid grinder will suffice for what I'm wanting. I want to grind wheat berries for bread. Maybe rye occasionally. TIA!
Forget-Me-Not
I haven't used the KA attachment, but I did look into it when I was looking to buy a grain mill, and I seem to recall that the reviews were less than favorable. I went with a NutriMill and I love it.
LisaKinVA
To the best of my knowledge, I wouldn't do it... because after you use the KA attachment, you have to let your KA cool down (they start to overheat), before you use the mixer. My KA is on its last legs...poor thing.
ktgrok
I have one my husband got me and it doesn't work very well at all - I have to manually hold the knob on the fine selection or it switches to super coarse on it's own. Very annoying.

Maybe rye occasionally. TIA! I used mine, and then made bread. I did wipe it down with a wet cloth periodically, to keep the temp down a bit, but I did it for years. I love my KA grinder because I like adding some coarse meal to the bread, and the Whisper Mill type make powder of the berries. If you want the finest wheat for WW pastry, it is not fine enough, or so I've been told.

kalanamak
The dial actually starts to turn, all on it's own. Ah, mine has a spring-loaded rod that presses on the underside of the dial. I can unscrew mine all the way. Can you drop out the rod and spring and put a thin layer of cardboard in the bottom, to make the spring push harder? happyhomemaker25
I've heard the KA Grain Mill is only good for the older models. My friend has one with all metal parts and hers works like a dream. Another friend burned out her motor on one she got a few years ago. I chickened out and decided not to try it. I waited a long time to get my KA and I like to baby her.
prairiewindmomma
I nearly burned out my KA using the grain attachment. Buy a K-Tec or Nutrimill instead.... :)
KS_
I'd go for the Nutrimill if you can. I had the KA grain mill and could never get fine enough flour to make a light whole wheat bread that was good for sandwiches and anything else. And combined with the letting the KA cool down, I decided to sell it and get the Nutrimill. It was well worth it - the Nutrimill grinds flour so much finer and is just easier and more functional. ETA: I bought my KA grain mill around 1992, so I don't know if the newer than that/older than that ones are better. amy g.
I use my every day. I may have an older model, though.
