Bang!Zoom!
I have to get into the ALE to talk things over with them on how to transition things. I am so utterly confused I can't even figure out where to start. Chances are *today* that we'll be in place here until Jan. 31st. The second semester starts on January 21. There's a 10 day gap there where I'm left with nothing I can get a handle on. I asked the counselor if I could use our remaining allotment for materials that are consumable and was told no, I can't. Ethics issue apparently. So I have no funding to work with, yet still have to provide 100% enrollment plans for that gap. I can just see me 10 days out before a move across the country trying to meet the requirements of the ALE & trying to pack and move at the same time. That's not going to fly. That's going to be impossible. I asked if I could have ten minutes tomorrow to talk things over; and I honestly don't know if I'm up for it. Could just be the jet lag, I didn't do so great coming home. All I know for sure is I have to deal with this, drop two classes tomorrow when I go in and try to make sense of whatever is coming. I think this makes me a 99% home-schooler with a ball and chain from the State. This sucks. I am still a horse with no name. :( Bleck. Grover
Surely you could list those ten days as "self directed, interest based learning" and/or an "extended life skills intensive" (packing to move, making sandwiches for everyone, keeping out of the way). JudoMom
If you know you're moving on 1/31, I seriously just wouldn't worry about it. It sounds like you've got a bright and motivated kid. Ten days isn't going to make a difference. Can you just withdraw her right before the 2nd semester starts? :iagree: Why wouldn't you withdraw at Christmas? It seems you're making this more complicated than it has to be.
Bang!Zoom!
Hmm, that's a good thought. Just plan on withdrawing on the 21st. That really would solve everything. I wonder if I'd be violating compulsory attendance law? How would I know for sure? I'd be happy as a clam to withdraw on Christmas as well-but again what about attendance issues? I don't think we are going to hear anything even half-way firm until about January 7th from the company we are with. They said, "We'll try not to make any changes over the holidays" - which I assume is up until the first week of Jan. passing. Bang!Zoom!
Okay, I just heard back from one of the other moms out there...she says the second semester starts Jan. 30th....not the 21st. They are also following district calendar for days off/holiday, so there is literally only 14 days I have to have her out there between today and Jan. 30th. The other days are either holiday/weekend/homeschooling days. I'll go in, drop the two classes tomorrow, add 2 hours of additional planned lesson subjects and we'll be set. I'm dropping IEW/English from the Roots Up, adding in KISS grammar & a self-made American History course. I can do this.
barbarajon
If she is withdrawing on 30th so there is just 1 day gap. A single day is definitely not going to make any difference. Still you are prepared with plan... great!

Just file an Intent to Homeschool thing with your district and you won't be violating anything.
