Guest Candace
We are currently using FLL. I switched to it at the end of last year after using Primary Language Lessons (PLL was not working for us!). My son and I both like FLL. I started at Level 1 (even though he was in Grade 2) because I did not want to miss any essentials. Currently we are at the end of Level 1 and I am deciding whether to skim through Level 2 and then on to 3 or just spend the rest of Grade 3 in Level 2 and do Level 3 next year. What I am wondering is what is recommended for grade 5 - or at the end of Level 4? Any advice?
redsquirrel
Well, isn't that just the question? SWB did write a 5th grade follow up called "advanced language lessons" It is currently on hold and is not going to be published for the foreseeable future. That is, in part, so that she can focus on completing Writing With Skill, the logic stage follow up to Writing with Ease. There are many good choices for middle age grammar and we discuss them a lot in the logic stage forum. I think I will be moving on to Hake grammar...maybe...
boscopup
Here's a thread that answers this question: http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=319932 (not really answers, but gives you options :tongue_smilie:) I would suggest skipping over to FLL3 now. You can jump in at grade level, and FLL3 is so much more fun (and age appropriate for a 3rd grader) than FLL1. We didn't do all of FLL2, and I skipped ahead to 3 with no problems. My son loves it. Thanks for the advice. I started Level 3 with DS 8 and he is excited about it. Right now I just have the teacher's manual, do you use the student workbook? Also - are you using WWE? I'm thinking we will start in Level 2 - writing is not his strong point. I'm wondering about ordering the workbook for that also. It might be a timesaver. I'd like some opinions on that if anyone has any - thanks!

Right now I just have the teacher's manual, do you use the student workbook? Yes, I use the student book for FLL3. I think it would be a pain to pull things out of the TM. Also, the diagrams are all drawn out for the student, and you would need to recreate that yourself from the TM. Also - are you using WWE? I'm thinking we will start in Level 2 - writing is not his strong point. I'm wondering about ordering the workbook for that also. It might be a timesaver. I'd like some opinions on that if anyone has any - thanks! Yes, I use WWE2 with FLL3. I love the WWE workbooks! They are easy to use, open and go. My son also loves the reading selections. Guest Candace
Thanks! I think I'll order them both. I agree, it seems like it would be a pain to do it myself - any why reinvent the wheel - right? I'm busy enough without asking for extra work! Thanks for your advice! I did skip up to FLL3 and have been using the workbooks for almost a week now. I'm glad we skipped FLL2 and went onto FLL3! He is doing well and enjoying the lessons. He is also doing WWE2 and likes that workbook also! Thanks for the encouragement and advice!
