Shellydon
I am already planning for next school year. Currently the kids I school are in 2nd and 4th (ages 7 and 9). We have done a Winter Promise/Sonlight combo for the last three years. '09 Animals and Their Worlds ** '10 Core 3/American Story 1 ** '11 Core 4/American Story 2. We do Winter Promise as the spine and add in SL books Core 5 will be too much for my 7 turning 8 year old, so it is out. There is nothing at Winter Promise that looks interesting to us. I will be adding a K'er into the mix as well. I guess I need to do either an overview of world history or begin a two year world history program. Suggestions on specific programs? Thanks! PeterPan
I'd look at MFW ECC or the Christian Cottage Unit Studies. Both would work well with those ages and let you hit a year of geography. I also like GtG, but it's a lot less structured than what you're used to. The CCUS would be pretty good for you, coming from WP. (It would have the amount of hands-on you're used to, all scheduled in and ready to go.)
Shellydon
Geography! That is a great idea. I am looking at HOD too, but it seems light. Thanks!
PeterPan
Yup, check out the CCUS. It has plenty to keep you busy (MFW is a bit more streamlined), and it's PERFECT for those ages. I kick myself twenty times over that I didn't do it when my dd was younger. I looked at it and never really knew what it was, kwim? If you buy the cd, it's only $45 for the entire year curriculum, just a great value. The author's dd was gifted and dyslexic btw, so it is this terrific mix of content and hands-on to work for kids like that. I figured you must be very hands-on if you've stuck with WP so long, so there you go. :)
Shellydon
Thanks! I've never heard of CCUS. I have to admit we skip 75% of the hands on in WP. I just like to have it scheduled and available if we want to use it.
