kfeusse
My daughter got bonked in the face tonight and one of her front (perm) teeth is pushed in a little ways. Do I need to do anything tonight...or can it wait until morning? It hurts...and is bleeding a little bit....not much. Gave her some Motrin. ANything else tonight?? JenneinCA
Call the dentist tonight. I would expect anything to happen tonight, but I would guess you would get an appointment for tomorrow morning.
Harriet Vane
Try to get her to a dentist or oral surgeon for evaluation asap. I will warn you--some hospitals do not have an oral surgeon on call in the ER, so if you choose that route, call first. Also, most hospitals will force you to allow triage and zillions of other medical professionals who know NOTHING about teeth to look at the tooth before they will call the oral surgeon. You will have to be pushy and repetitive about the need for an oral surgeon. A normal doctor does NOT know how to deal with this and you should NOT accept an evaluation from one. kfeusse
thanks. I called the dentist and he said to bring her in tomorrow and they would look at her...he wasn't too concerned though...but an x-ray will tell us more, I am sure. kfeusse
thanks for asking. SHe has been put on a low activity and soft diet routine for 2 weeks. We were told to keep an eye on the tooth for discoloration and any other swelling of the gum. Otherwise, we will wait for the ortho to put braces on her teeth (that was coming anyway) to put it back in position. It is still quite tight and they couldn't even move it. So we just want her mouth to heal and then on to life as normal. Thanks for all of the help!!!

My ds has two broken front teeth from a basketball accident. When it was time for him to have a palate expander, I was told two things by the ortho: --Application of braces on the front teeth could accelerate any deterioration/damage. (Originally he wanted to do the palate expander with four braces on the front teeth.) This had actually happened to patients of his. --Our ortho ended up deciding not to put on the braces (they did just the expander). He felt that since ds still has nerve activity in the teeth that it would be folly to try moving the teeth. (His nerves were damaged but miraculously have not yet died--we've been waiting for two years for him to need a root canal.)
