Decent socks for kids?

Recommended Posts

Well, I never would have purposefully gone to Dillard's to buy socks but we happened upon an 80% off kids' shoe sale there a couple of years ago and I bought a package of their store brand socks so they could try on shoes (they were wearing sandals that day). Those socks are amazing! I now go there just for socks. Seriously. They are thick and form fitting. They don't slide around. They don't get bulky in the toe. They don't get holes. I have never had to get rid of them for any other reason than the kids growing out of them. In fact, I save DS8's socks to pass down to DS5, and that's saying a lot for a sock these days!

I like Gymboree socks cuff socks for the young kids. They last great and are comfortable.

DD5 on the other hand, likes low cut socks, so I buy her Puma socks. I get them at TJ Maxx.

DD12 likes the KB socks. They are sold in a lot of places, but we buy them at Costco. She likes to mismatch/coordinate her socks, so the color themes work great for her.

Ds17 gets Nike socks that water wicking and dry fast. His feet get hot, so he wears light weight socks and shoes all year long. He walks/bikes a lot so in the PNW (with its random rain showers) quick dry is a must.

SmartWool. Pricey, but I keep my eye on Sierra Trading Post for bargain SmartWool socks for the whole family. I bought ds 6 pairs two years ago for $4/pair and they're pretty much the only socks he wears. They're just now starting to get thin around the heels/toes.

Same here. My kids love Smart Wool. I usually keep an eye out for sales at REI. (My son likes the REI brand socks too, but my daughter sticks to SmartWool.)

Do feet get hot in SmartWool? How about bamboo socks? I just bought the kids some Eco Sox to wear when they play hockey, but they don't make them in kids' sizes so they wouldn't work so well for everyday wear. They are knee-highs on the kids, and my dd likes crew-cut socks. Does anyone know of any bamboo socks in kids' sizes?
