FrogMom5
He's been released from the hospital-w/both drainage tubes still intact. Your prayers worked! We are all so happy! He still has a long way to go to be fully recovered. The doctor won't release him to return to work (even from home) for about 2 more months. It may take a full year for him to return to normal. But, he's home for his little girl's birthday-she turns 2 this weekend. Thank you all for praying and sending positive thoughts his way. If you can continue to do so, it will be greatly appreciated. I will admit that we were all really scared. 20 minutes after my mom called to tell me he'd been released last night, I was so exhausted. It was a release of all the tension from the last 2 1/2 weeks. I can only imagine how my sister felt, especially since she's pregnant. By this time next yr., I hope to report that Russ is back running marathons. :D Thanks again everyone. You all are the best! Denise
Jean in Newcastle
Good news! Take some time to relax and rest. And take some extra vitamin C or Airborne or something. Often our bodies get sick when released from stress like that.
Denisemomof4
oh my gosh! I remember reading about his hole in the lung but I missed the post about the exotic bugs! How SCARY! Are the doctors confident that they're all gone? I saw something in the past few months. There were people in FL getting these illness from exotic parasite infestations that weren't known to be in the US, if I believe right. They did a lot of testing and found them in the stagnant waters in FL. Did your bil swim in lakes over the summer?

Cassy
That's wonderful news! Your poor sister must have been through the most horrible time. I'm so glad they'll be able to enjoy Christmas together, and with a much brighter future to look forward to. Be sure to let us know when he runs that marathon :001_smile:. Best wishes

I guess if the medicines are killing them off, then there's no reason he can't be home? Maybe that's what the doctors are thinking. I hope so! To my knowledge, Russ had not been swimming anywhere this summer. My dad wonders if he ran through some water during one of his marathons. I really don't know. If we do discover where he contracted these bugs, I will let everyone know so they can try avoid the same situation. You're right, this is scary stuff. They don't have to come from water. They can come from food - esp. raw or undercooked food. This can include things like fruits and vegetables that are often served raw. They can also come from animals. Nowadays we have access to exotic foods even in our grocery store that come from all over the world. FrogMom5
Oh, so maybe they came from a salad or something? Wow. That's really scary. They live where they can buy organic. Maybe they will consider shopping at organic grocery stores now. They were never against it, just didn't see the need. What about those w/out access to organic produce? How does everyone stay safe? This whole event has been so surreal. I need to take that vitamin C and get extra rest now. It's hard to wrap my head around all this. Denise It's not the produce itself, usually but stuff that didn't get washed off. So rinse your produce well. Some people use a bleach solution.
