Thanksgiving week school plans?

Recommended Posts

What are your plans for school next week? I plan to take Thurs and Fri off for sure, and maybe Wed. We are not able to be with extended family this year, so we are going to be home Thurs, which is the only day DH has off. Friday we will just play and have a fun, relaxing day.

I can't decide whether to do regualar schoolwork Mon-Wed, or do something like Math, Reading and a unit study of some sort. I have considered doing a nutrition study with some materials I ordered a way back. I can't decide.

So what are your family's plans?

I am going to have dd make some fun Thanksgiving art projects (handprint turkeys, Pilgrim hats, etc) and we are going to learn about Thanksgiving and talk about what we are thankful for. DH has a 4 day weekend so we will probably do some interest led stuff and some nature walks Mon-Wed. She'll help me cook for Thanksgiving so that'll be our math discuss--practical application.

I am looking forward to a week of uninterrupted school time. Most of the activities the kids are involved with are cancelled next week. No running off to piano, karate, homeschool group, girlscouts, gymnastics, etc, etc, etc. We get to have full days with no where to go and we finally can get some stuff done. Thanksgiving day will be off, but the other days we will be catching up and trying to even gain some extra ground.

We are breaking from Thanksgiving week until the new year. In the past, we would only school halfheartedly anyway in the weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas so this year I decided we'd just take one big break and enjoy all the holiday activities and preparations peacefully and stress free.

It is one of our scheduled weeks off; dh also has the week off from work (teacher). As it is, we have two birthdays, one combined birthday party, a well-baby appointment, four dentist appointments, and I do everything I can to get dh to put up Christmas lights the day after Thanksgiving, and I need to get us ready for Advent ... it'll be busy enough. I do plan, however, to try to get a couple more chapters of Heidi read. The boys are really enjoying it and I don't want to take off too much time between chapters.

We need to get caught up on our history, so we will do history, art, and Japanese Mon. - Wed. We'll be reading the textbook and watching some documentaries for history. For art, we'll watch some lectures (we're using a Great Courses series) and hopefully go to an art museum. And for Japanese, we'll do some review and work on our hiragana.

No co-op classes next week, so I'm catching up a bit on the courses we do exclusively at home.

We are taking the week off of regular school and doing a Thanksgiving Unit study put together with library books, craft books and online resources.

:iagree: This is what we are doing. Planned on a three day week, but ended up having a lot of family decide to come visit. I figure we won't see them until at least lunch or later M-W, so we've planned to do some fun Thanksgiving stuff in the mornings. Hope it works out that way :)

We have a regularly scheduled break for the entire week.
