ktgrok
around 3pm, that sounds about right. Then we munch on leftovers later in the evening. Maybe 4pm if I'm late getting the bird in the oven. Sometimes 2pm if I'm early.
Night Elf
Usually about 2:00pm when I was part of a large family meal. There is so much prep work to have everything ready for one time. But since we just have our small family, we aim for lunch time, like noon, then eat leftovers, if any, for dinner about 5:00pm.
DianeW88
4 PM. Not too early, not too late. :D
Rjmakmom
I have to have dinner on the table at 1pm this year to accomodate my brother's in laws who can't ever seem to pick a time other than 3pm. Grr...one of these days I will get to set the time! :glare:
KrissiK
We are having ours at 1:00. DH's brother's family and sister's family both have small children and a 1-2 hour drive each way, so it's better to have it mid-day and then they can leave before it gets too late for the little ones. Ellie
I honestly don't understand why "dinner" is served early. Someone explain it to me. I like to eat at 5pm at the earliest. It's dinner right? I ate lunch at noonish so I don't want to eat a big meal at 3pm. (sorry mini rant there). Depends on what part of the country you're from. :D In some places, "dinner" is the meal served at noon. "Supper" is the meal served in the late afternoon/early evening. Some of us like to eat our Thanksgiving meal earlier in the day so that we can schlep around the house, eat leftover turkey and dressing later in the afternoon, and have more dessert in the evening. :D

We like to go for a long family hike when weather permits (and I mean if there is less than 6in of snow. We have gone in weather as cold as 7degrees ;)) We started that tradition of hiking when we moved to Wy and had no family but our own little 6 person family. We are used to Thanksgiving at that time from before we moved and I guess it is just how we both are. Both our families were like this. That way we had time for games and just time to enjoy each other instead of eating and running. I guess holidays for us are like Sundays, big meal at noonish. If dh work schedule allowed for it we would love to have our big meal at noon every day- it just does not work out that way.

Parker Martin
I grew up having it around one. Now we have to have it around five because one couple in the family goes to an earlier Thanksgiving meal with the other side of their family every year. akmommy
It used to always be between 3 and 5, but this year DD s working 12-5 on thanksgiving so it will be closer to 7 which seems really odd to me.

tabrizia
Normally between 5 and 6, but it has been known to be pushed as late as 8 before. We do try to eat it earlier at 5 or 6 most of the time though.
Krista in LA
When it's ready. Whenever that is. :iagree: Us too. It's just the 4 of us every year so the first one up gets started on the the turkey and then we fix everything else based on when it will be done. Generally it's early afternoon but it's no big deal if it's later. I'm thinking about maybe just eating the pies first this year.....:D
KS_
With my family, it's usually around noon. If it's with dh's family, it was usually later (2 or 3pm).
TravelingChris
We don't have a set time. Often it is around 3;30 or 4. THe earliest we have had it is 1pm. The latest has been 6pm. NOw since we normally eat dinner later (usually at least 7pm and 8 or 8:30 is not unusual), it is earlier.

Mom22ns
Between 12-1:00. Dinner here means the largest meal of the day. In my grandparents generation that was always lunch. Now it is the evening meal, but we do all holiday meals at noon. That allows travelers time visit or time to get home, whichever they need more. Every holiday meal round here is served at noon or shortly thereafter (12-3) because the meal is SO BIG, that you may choose to not eat again, or, on T day, everyone wants sandwiches for dinner. Jenny in Florida
We eat at a fairly normal, maybe a little early, dinner time. We like to eat by candlelight, so waiting until 5:00-ish works better for us. Since we don't have company, we don't have to commit to any particular time. We just eat when everything is ready. It can be served at noon or in the evening. If dinner is at noon, supper is in the evening. If dinner is in the evening, lunch is at noon. We will be serving our Thanksgiving dinner at noon. Emmy
Typically when my parents come we've done it at 1 because my mom doesn't like the afternoon meal thing, but this year I told her we are doing it at 2 - that just works much better for me in getting so many dishes ready. To me, it's just the one meal for that day - the kids can have a late breakfast and then hold out for the big meal at 2 and then in the evening everyone can have leftovers or just another serving of dessert. MamaAkins
We will eat between 4:30 and 6pm, depending on when we get it all ready. We are preparing and serving Thanksgiving meals for about 425 people with our church on Thanksgiving, so we won't get home from that until about noon....then we will start all of our cooking at home.
