helena
We're in between grammar programs and I'd like my 12yo to read a good book on grammar usage/rules. So far I've only found very young and very adult (dry) books at the library. I'd like to order something from Amazon that's just right for a 7th grader (who doesn't struggle with the subject). Any suggestions? :bigear:
PeterPan
You might follow the leads you get on amazon by looking up the Deluxe Transitive Vampire book or Eats, Shoots, Leaves.

Okay, I'm doing this right now. Transitive Vampire looks fun! Maybe for high school. :001_smile: That one led me to a title I recognized, turns out I own it (Woe is I), I'll have to read through that tonight. I also picked up Eats, Shoots, Leaves at the library... sigh... Why are the little things always such a pain in the rear? :tongue_smilie: I thought it would be good for her to approach it (grammar) from a different angle, maybe some new info would stick by mixing it up with a book instead of a curriculum. :lurk5:

helena
Dear Helena, My eldest is very much enjoying Linda Thomas's "Beginning Syntax" this year--it's an interesting look at the subject from a completely different perspective than that of the more usual prescriptive grammar. Worth a look, maybe? There's a Google preview here: http://books.google.ca/books?id=xBrF5yh7_eAC&pg=PR1&lpg=PR1&dq=linda+thomas+beginning+syntax&source=bl&ots=uWAJ7yOp3e&sig=qQDiH8U0taUV8f8B4MB7CHZJWUc&hl=en&ei=toLETsT_BLLKiAKB9anNBQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=5&ved=0CDwQ6AEwBA#v=onepage&q&f=false And it's available here (maybe Amazon, too, I don't know): http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/Beginning-Syntax-Linda-Thomas/9780631188261 There's an answer key for the exercises included in the back of the book, which is handy, too. Good luck finding something you like! Best, HG Thank you HG I checked out the link, and also went to Amazon (which has reviews and a look inside the book). It looks interesting. How old is your child that's using this?
