Willow Creek Academy
I am still considering Sonlight for the littlers but another thread got me looking at HOD. 1) Could a 4 year old tag along on Little Hearts For His Glory and what if the almost 6 year old is beyond the Math and LA but not ready for the next level? 2) Is it easy to combine cores with an 18 month difference in age all the way through? 3) Give me a rundown on the history cycle. Pretty please. I am getting too dang old to run both those kids on different curriculums spread across the boads. I did it once. I don't want to do it again. I WILL if I have to, though... twoxcell
I am still considering Sonlight for the littlers but another thread got me looking at HOD. 1) Could a 4 year old tag along on Little Hearts For His Glory and what if the almost 6 year old is beyond the Math and LA but not ready for the next level? How old is your 4 year old and where is he/she academically? My dd started LHFHG at 4 but she turned 5 a couple months in to it. At first some of the reading was a bit tough for her but she did great with it. I took it slow with her and we spent about 12 months on it. As far as your 6 year old, could he/she use the 1st grade suggestions? You could also get the Beyond guide and he could do the 1st grade math, 1st spelling list, Emergent Reader schedule and the basic grammar. If you did that the following year he would do the 2nd grade math in the back, the second spelling list, DITHR(or just the level 2 books) and you could start R&S 2 or wait until Bigger. 2) Is it easy to combine cores with an 18 month difference in age all the way through? I think that 18 months would be an ideal combining age. None of mine are that close so I see no combining in our future. 3) Give me a rundown on the history cycle. Pretty please. LHFHG- Bible/church history, and American history, BLHFHG-American History focusing on Pilgrims, and Pioneers told from children's [perspectives, BHFHG- American History focusing on main events and characters, PHFHG- 1 year overview of world history. After that is a a four year history cycle followed by a typical Highschool sequence. I am getting too dang old to run both those kids on different curriculums spread across the boads. I did it once. I don't want to do it again. I WILL if I have to, though... HTH
krismoose
1) Could a 4 year old tag along on Little Hearts For His Glory and what if the almost 6 year old is beyond the Math and LA but not ready for the next level? Tagging along would be fine (and fun!) for now, maybe even for the following guide, but once you get to Bigger Hearts, the writing requirements for history and science, particularly, would likely overwhelm your younger one, unless you slowed down how fast you are progressing through the history/science/Bible plans. You would probably want to re-evaluate at that point and do LHFHG again with the younger one, or something else more accessible to the younger one. You can easily sub in the appropriate level of whatever you use for math and LA without it affecting the plans. If you wanted to use HOD's spelling lists, emerging reader questions, or the hands-on math activities that coordinate with Singapore 1A/B, you'd need the Beyond Little Hearts guide. History cycle scope is here. HTH! (I can't help you with the 2nd question :D)
