sbgrace
Ugh. I used RS B with my boys. It worked wonderfully for one and the other ok in that he learned but the style wasn't good for him. I switched to Math in Focus (Singapore style math) and the color book and workbook layout is working well for both. But I'm not feeling like we're as solid on concepts as we were with RS. This is especially true of the one who wasn't loving RS. I'm not sure the next section isn't going to throw him completely because it's subtraction and he didn't get the RS subtraction foundation in B like he had addition foundation. His twin is doing fine but I think he was better with RS. It was his kind of math. I bought: Math in Focus as above Math Mammoth RS Activities for the AlAbacus and games book. Some Miquon to try it with RS hater. My plan was to use Math in Focus but do addition review and subtraction the RS way using the AlAbacus and games book. I'm not sure I can pull it together well. I don't know how much review for example or the order I should present. I'm feeling like I'm haphazardly slapping something together and in math that's stressing me! Do I buy RS C after all that?? I really only want the addition and subtraction from RS C. I'll probably use the other subjects from Math in Focus. Terabith
Honestly, I wouldn't. I used RS C, and it was okay, but that's all, and it's sooo teacher intensive. B is awesome, but I think it makes sense to switch after B. I don't regret using C; there is a lot of good stuff in there and it's solid, but I think the trade offs in terms of quality vs teacher intensity start to make it less worthwhile, and there are more options out there that are less expensive and intensive yet teach math in a similar way.
