Parrothead
Dh got sent out of town unexpectedly late this afternoon. Some kind of super secret squirrel op. Since he left in a hurry I did not think to get the extra keys to the gun cabinet out of the gun cabinet. (I tend to lose things so the extra set is locked up in the cabinet so I know where they are when dh is home. My idea to do so and it was working until tonight.) So this evening (about half an hour ago) two fairly intoxicated individuals wandered down the sidewalk making lots of noise and generally being stupid. One had a guitar in his hand. He was not playing it, but arguing with his buddy. I kept an eye on them as they passed by then went back to reading with dd. Directly I hear the guitar. Then right in front of the house. It stopped. Baxter (bless him) went nuts. There was nothing to do but put him out back on his lead. He sniffed and sniffed and tracked to the garage. The started barking up a storm Of course this is my cue to call the cops. They came and checked the garage (but not the loft) and behind the garage and in the boat and in my truck. Nothing. Now I feel quite foolish. Everyone leaves, I go back upstairs and settle in when Baxter starts again with the growling and barking. He shot downstairs and sniffed the doors but momentarily he was done. I suppose the danger was gone. I'm wondering if the guy was actually up in the loft then left. To make the foolish feeling worse I have the porch light on. But did you see where I posted we put up the Christmas lights? The house is lit up with Christmas lights since I'm not going out their to screw the regular bulb into the socket.:glare: I'm going to take my computer, purse, keys and my camera up to the bedroom and barricade dd and myself in for the night. What do you think the chances are this won't trigger my insomnia?

Liz CA
1. The chances of not suffering from isomnia are slim to none. Now is the time to read that book you always wanted to read. 2. Is Baxter (bless him again) a reliable watch dog? IOW, if someone tried to come close to the door would he go off for sure even at night? 3. Are you living in a military community where you have MP protection? Call them again if you hear something or if Baxter barks incessantly. I have to keep Baxter in my bedroom with me. 3. Are you living in a military community where you have MP protection? Call them again if you hear something or if Baxter barks incessantly. No, dh is a para-military gov't employee. I told the officer that dh is gone for two days. He said they would put the house on special watch. I'm hoping if nothing else comes of it they are crashed somewhere. When I told the officer what I saw he said they had a call last night about 2a for the same guy on the other side of town. The officer sounded pretty anxious to look hard for him/them. I guess they just hit the bottle early tonight. :glare:
Mrs Mungo
Once when dh was gone I woke up from a dead sleep because I heard a man's voice. My next-door neighbors on that side were gone for the weekend. I didn't see anything out the window. But, I took my flashlight and shotgun and went out in the yard in my nighty to double check. I didn't see anything, and managed to get back to sleep at some point. The next morning I discovered that the neighbors' door had been busted down, but nothing was stolen. I guess I scared them off!! Maybe you and the dog scared off your drunkards.
Annie G
That would scare me, too. Praying you can get some rest tonight, though I know it'll be difficult.

Makes me feel better now that you are under police watch! :D To you, dd and Baxter a restful night...and to your dh wherever he is!

I can't see it for the trees, but the sheriff's office is on the next block. The PD is two and a half blocks to the east. And I'm not ashamed to say I pulled the law enforcement brotherhood card. Guest submarines
:grouphug: Once when DH wasn't home, and DS was a 5 months old, I was nursing him to sleep when I heard the front door open. I knew it wasn't DH, because he always took his heavy winter boots off right at the door, but the person kept on slowly stomping around. I knew I had to do something, but I also knew that DS would start wailing, if I stopped nursing. I was terrified. Luckily I had an axe in the bedroom (don't ask.) I managed to sneak away from DS, and tiptoed downstairs. DH was pretty lucky I didn't kill him. Yes, it was him. In his boots. :001_huh:

Now as I think about it, I surprised DH once. :001_huh: It wasn't pretty. He was waiting for me outside the lecture hall, and when I saw him, his back was turned towards me. I ran up to him, and jumped on his back. You know, like in the movies? This is how I learned DH had really good reflexes.
kalanamak
Do you have a car with a remote lock on the key and a panic button? I like the fact I can set it off next to my bed and the car goes nuts in the garage.

Parrothead
I'm up and getting ready for the day. Lots to do this morning and afternoon. Some of which is getting into the garage and making sure everything is okay. I did get a bit of sleep, but not much. I'm hoping to get a nap in later this afternoon. I feel even sillier by the light of day. Thanks for making me feel better last night.

Teachin'Mine
Maybe you could ask a neighbor to help you check out the loft. That would probably give you more peace of mind for tonight. Glad all is okay! :grouphug:

Several months ago he was gone and some lady got murdered in our little town. I couldn't sleep for days, even after finding out it was drug related. I've had many police officers tell me that they would rather get called out on a false alarm than called out after somebody has gotten hurt. Some things that have helped me: Leaving a light on downstairs Sleeping with mace--I'm all for guns but I have a tendency to sleepwalk so I'm scared to have a gun handy. I sleep with my keys (to hit the panic button if somebody tries to enter) and my cell phone. Hope you are able to sleep better tonight. And like I said, the cops aren't annoyed when you call them out for "nothing".
