joannqn
We survived the day (yesterday's link), but almost didn't get the heat turned back on. We had chocolate chocolate chip muffins for breakfast because I didn't have ingredients for any other kind. That worked ok, though I could have stood for some protein. We had beans and rice for lunch. I'm glad I spent the time making the beans last night. Dinner is almost done in the crockpot. As for the heat...the man in charge opted to not turn it off until the very last minute. It was only off for about 5 hours, and it never got cold in the house. This is a good thing because our wood was too wet to keep a fire going. Then the fun began! When they came in to relight the furnace, they almost refused to turn it back on. Apparently, the furnace is old and a hazard. They almost "red tagged" it. If they had, we would have had no heat until the owner replaced it. As it was, they "orange tagged" it. The notice says it must be inspected and cleaned as soon as possible to deal with hazardous conditions. Basically, he warned us of possible carbon monoxide concerns and suggested we get a CO monitor for our own safety, though he thinks there's no immediate danger. He said he'd hate for the owners to spend the money on cleaning it when it is old enough that it really needs to be just replaced.
Oakblossoms
You need a CO moniter no matter what.
Renee in NC
You need a CO moniter no matter what. Yes! I would have no combustible anything without a CO monitor. We don't have one, but we're all electric with no fireplace.
Impish
We just went through similar...our furnace needs replacing. And we got a CO2 monitor while we were at it. *Still* waiting on the furnace replacement :glare:
joannqn
We were thinking about the monitor already. Our lease also says that we have to check the batteries in the smoke detectors every month. The only problem is that there are no smoke detectors. The furnace filter needed to be changed 200 hours ago. It takes a while to convince this leasing agent to do anything. :glare: We have to prioritize what we bug them about. on another note, dinner was awful. I've never made a worse chicken ever. It was so dry, it was almost impossible to chew and swallow. Even DH, who eats anything, didn't eat it.

Heck with the leasing agent. Get thee to a hardware store & pick up a smoke detector AND a CO detector! You can buy combos that detect both now. Annie G
You definitely need a CO monitor. A friend and her family nearly died last week from CO poisoning- the mom and four kids were taken by ambulance- they woke up vomiting, stumbling around, falling down stairs and realized something was wrong. Even if your landlord won't buy it, please get one...and some smoke detectors, too.
QueenCat
PLEASE get the CO monitor ASAP, even if the landlord won't pay for it. We had a horrible tragedy in our town recently, due to CO poisoning. I'm being blunt because it is so important. There are children who are now orphans because their parents were killed very quickly by the CO.
