mom31257
Are there any online programs a person could start mid-year? I have a friend who is considering pulling her dd out of 9th grade to homeschool, but the mom is single and works. I know the girl is in some AP and honors classes now and wants to become a vet. Thanks for any suggestions

beachnut
FLVS -- Florida Virtual School -- offers online courses that we (FL residents) can enroll in any time of the year. I know non-FL residents also take their online courses but I'm not sure if they can start at any point in the year or not. It's worth looking into, though. mom31257
Thanks, I also just found out she is in the integrated math courses and is in Accelerated Math 1. Is there any source online that offers integrated math?
lavender
Landry Academy has semester live online courses that start in January in a variety of subjects. We are actually looking at taking their Composition semester class. :001_smile:

MBM
Northwestern University offers online courses called Gifted Learning Links that can be started at different times throughout the year, some monthly. But they are very hit or miss because some teachers totally drop the ball and rarely teach. My son is taking a Latin course through them to satisfy his high school's requirement (we afterschool) because he couldn't fit it in his schedule this year. His teacher has taught maybe eight times since July and always gives lame excuses for not teaching or even responding to e-mails for weeks at a time. We alerted the administrators at NU and apparently they don't check to make sure the teacher is actually teaching. Luckily, my son has had enough Latin to get through the course, but I still feel ripped off. I've heard similar things about their physics course, too. On the other hand, ds took a writing class with Michael Clay Thompson this summer that was wonderful. MCT is very responsive and offered good advice. I'd highly recommend his classes. Guest
Georgia Virtual School through k12 may be her best bet. For the TXVA, i know there are some courses being offered on a semester basis. BUT she will have to deal with the public school system unless she can afford to enroll with the K12 International Academy. Keystone is another option. From personal experience with the lower levels, Oak Meadow is wonderful to work with. Great people and service. Their courses are writing intensive...all of them to some degree outside of Math. I have not used any high school courses yet. Laurel Springs School is another option. I know nothing about the courses but they do have their own theme song. Monarch by AlphaOmega but I have heard it is not exactly the most...stimulating?
dansamy
Monarch by AlphaOmega but I have heard it is not exactly the most...stimulating? Isn't Monarch just the SOS curriculum but online instead of installed on one PC?
mom31257
Thanks so much. I'll definitely be looking into these with her. I do believe that Monarch is SOS in an online format.
