Brigitte
So, I am about to order a Kindle Touch. Do I want this skin. this cover, or this sleeve? The sleeve seems to provide protection when transporting or storing the Kindle, but allows you to use the Kindle as is. The cover might give better protection, but it seems like it would get in the way when you are trying to read. I am not sure what the purpose of the skin is. Any thoughts? Also, is there a cheaper place to find such things?
Word Nerd
I have a portfolio-style case (M-Edge Executive) similar to the cover you linked to and found a cute padded bag on Etsy to use when I'm out and about. The cases are all overpriced IMHO, but I'm glad I have one for my Kindle Keyboard.
momofkhm
JMO! I would shy away from a sleeve. DH has one and when I used his kindle before I got one, it was a pain. While I was out and about, I had to hold onto 2 things - the kindle and the sleeve. I have a cover. It folds back on itself so I only hold one thing while I'm out and about. A skin won't protect the screen while you are carrying it around.
Lady Florida.
I have a sleeve and a case for my current Kindle. I rarely use the case, but use the sleeve all the time when I carry it with me. It protects the Kindle in yet fits nicely in my purse, unlike the case. When I take it out of the sleeve, I just drop the sleeve on my lap or in my purse until it's time to put my Kindle away. I'm not ordering anything for ds' Touch until he decides if he's going to keep it. He couldn't decide if he wanted the Touch or Keyboard, and finally decided on the Touch. I told him to let me know within a week or so if he wants to keep it. If not, we'll return it to Amazon and get the Keyboard. Once he knows which one he'll have, we'll start looking at cases or sleeves.
Brigitte
Thanks, Ladies. I think I am just going to get the Touch for now and see what the stores have for sleeves and covers. The covers seem like they would be more protective, but cumbersome when you are reading. Getting one at the store will help me figure that out, I guess. :tongue_smilie:
dlcricket
I have a cover. In my hands it feels like a real book, only lighter. It's very comfortable to hold.

RegGuheert
In the unboxing video from the LA Times that I included in the Kindle Fire review thread it showed that Amazon threw a sleeve into the shipping package for the Fire. I wonder if they might do the same thing for the Touch.
Remudamom
I splurged and got the leather cover with a light. It quit working after about 6 months, but I still use in on Sundays for church!! (Bible on Kindle!!) I've got a neoprene cover that I use very infrequently. Most of the time we I'm out and about I keep the kindle in a special pocket in my purse with nothing else in there with it. Smiles2share
I vote for the cover. I agree with the previous posters that it is not cumbersome at all. It protects the kindle nicely especially the screen which is what I most worry about.:001_huh: I like the feel of it in my hands and I fold mine back on itself as well. I bought mine from Amazon and it is a crowncase brand and was very inexpensive. Last time I checked for a friend, the hot pink one like you linked was only about $13.00. Enjoy!:001_smile:

I just ordered the Touch on Amazon, since I finally figured out that while the Fire is available now the Touch isn't. :( So, no need to keep checking the stores. Thanks, everyone, for the input. Two WTMers received their Kindle Fires yesterday and neither one mentioned a sleeve in the shipping container, so perhaps this was only for professional reviewers. We'll know later today, since our package is "Out for delivery"!

JumpedIntoTheDeepEndFirst
One word of warning-we had the cover for the Kindle Keyboard that clips into the side of the Kindle. If you don't hold it carefully you can twist the cover away from the Kindle and end up breaking both. I don't know how the new touch models work but these covers weren't kid proof. That said-a cover is easier when out and about than a sleeve is. The only difference is with some sleeves you can carry the cord as well. Brigitte
Thanks for the advice. That side clip thing does not sound like it was designed very well. It looks like the Kindle Touch covers use elastic in all four corners to hold the Kindle in. I am going to wait until it arrives and see what the stores have. I should have added-the cover no longer hooked to the Kindle and the light didn't work (the clips tie it to the Kindle battery) but the Kindle did work. The space where the cover clipped was damaged and it probably wouldn't have held another cover securely using that method.

(The UPS man had a flat tire. :tongue_smilie:) Anyway, there was no sleeve in the outer package like I saw in the LA Times unboxing video. Sorry. Guest Asimone
Some of the Kindles come with covers but others may not. If you do not have a cover for your Kindle you may want to invest in one. The latest generation Kindle covers run from $40 to $150 depending on the style that you choose and can easily be purchased online at many retailers including the online auction sites that are in abundance. If you are looking for a Kindle cover you can easily find one at a discount on the internet. Be sure that you have all of the product information before purchasing from an online store. You should know the return policy and make sure that the cover will fit your Kindle Cover
MooCow
I have the same exact skin, a similar sleeve, and the same cover. :tongue_smilie: I only use the skin, lol
