Do you have your tree up or any other holiday decorations out?

Actually we do! Our life is such that it pays to be super flexible and it worked out better to do it early for our family so we can actually enjoy the process and not rush through it.

Also my dh's dad is seriously ill and he may have to fly back to the US at any time and stay for a few weeks and we wanted to enjoy our oldest dd's last "Family Christmas Decorating Extravaganza" (she leaves for college next summer) while he is here.

thanksgiving is at my house every year.

I put up my christmas tree right after as a way of celebrating and looking forward to christmas. though I've been wanting to put up the tree and have already started listening to christmas music . . .

We have all our stuff up inside, which is really just our Festivus tree (we use a fake evergreen not an aluminum pole LOL), our nutcracker collection (we buy a new one each year) and a few stuffed holiday items. We haven't done any outside decorating, but usually don't. We only did it this early because dh was is currently stationed in WA and was able to come home just this past week before heading back and then going out on deployment soon. We usually put everything up on Thanksgiving, but did it early so he could be with us to do it.

We had a lovely warm day last week so we put up the lights on the outside.

We do not turn them on.

Everything else is still geared for fall/Thanksgiving.

We usually start decorating the weekend after Thanksgiving, but since it looks like we'll have unseasonably warm weather this weekend, my DH will likely put up the outdoor lights then. I remember freezing doing it last year and I have a lot less patience for non-working bulbs when my fingers are numb!:tongue_smilie:

We also make Advent wreaths with my Church on the first Sunday of Advent.

When growing up, we always did it the same. Decorate for Christmas right after Thanksgiving. Take Christmas items down after New Years.

There have been years when I decorated right after Thanksgiving, and there were some that I decorated the week of Christmas. Sometimes I took Christmas items down the day after Christmas, and other times they were up until February.

To me, the Christmas season doesn't start until the day after Thanksgiving.

I decorate the house and get ready for the first Sunday of Advent. I don't do it as extensively as I used to, now that the kids are older.

I take the kids to chop down a tree in mid-December, and it gets taken down on New Year's Eve. When I was a kid, we put up the tree on Christmas Eve. DH is American, and wouldn't go for that.

This year, I am putting Aidan's ex-pen around the tree, to protect it and the presents from him.

We put up our Christmas Village yesterday. I just needs a few finishing touches.

I think we will put up the Christmas tree this weekend. Normally, we have Thanksgiving here and put up the tree on the Friday or Saturday after. This year we are going to be gone and I don't want to have to put it up when we get home.

I am suprised that several people around here are all set up and ready for the season.:001_huh: I am so far behind.

Well, my tree is still up from last year. It's a small fake one, because we were out of town for the actual holiday, and I decided I just wanted it to stay.

No,no,no! I don't even want to see Christmas decorations until the weekend after Thanksgiving and it seems the Christmas season is getting longer and longer. I saw decorations up in stores before Halloween was even over this year!

I love Christmas...just not the commercialization of it.

typically, I do all the decorating Thanksgiving weekend. I won't this year. I just can't get excited. dh has been doing a kitchen repair project for 1.5 years (also basement work too). There is not one room other than a bedroom that does not have tools or cabinets or something for the project. It's cluttered and I can't even vacuum so it's getting gross for me. So, I told dh I wasn't doing anything this year. He put up one cabinet last week --maybe I'll get to decorate right before Christmas.

A friend told me today that there was a sign up in Nordstroms stating when their decorations would be up and then a statement to the effect of one holiday at a time.

Can't do Christmas until Thanksgiving is over. I hate the advertising drive that forces us to celebrate holidays and seasons well before they arrive.

I am in the process of putting all our decorations up. I am doing so at the urging of my children. We will be out of town for the week of Thanksgiving, and then for Christmas from the 16th until the 28th. They want to have some time to enjoy our decorations while we are home, so I agreed to decorate early. I wasn't too happy about it, but the kids seem to be enjoying everything.

We have the tree up. It's earlier than usual, but only by 2 weeks. (We put it up Friday night, usually do it the day after Thanksgiving). But my grandparents are coming this week, too, and we're doing our 'Christmas' with them, so it made sense to me anyway.

ETA: I don't see it being over-commercialism, just because some people choose to put their decor up a little early. I'll admit, it is my favorite time of the year. I just like the 'magic' of the season, and like the idea of it being around a little longer this year. I'll probably take the decor down the week between Christmas and New Years.

Thanksgiving has never really been a big deal to me. I don't know how people 'decorate' for it. I don't really think it's that big of a deal... that said, I don't decorate for any holidays except Christmas, so maybe that's why?

We put our tree/decorations up the week of Thanksgiving. Sometimes a couple of days before, sometimes the day after. This year it is going to be the day after unless my two youngest wear me down.:D

I still have fall decorations out and will add a few turkey decorations for Thanksgiving as soon as I have some time. I enjoy fall/Thanksgiving and try to ignore all the Christmas stuff that is out now. It actually makes me irritated more than anything. (It seems to get earlier and earlier every year. Dh jokes that pretty soon we'll just start the Christmas holiday after Halloween.)

I usually get the Christmas decorations out a few days or a week after Thanksgiving. Then a week later we put up the tree. We do a real tree, so we have to delay that a bit or it becomes too dry. If we had an artificial, I might put it up a little earlier.

normally, our tree goes up after thanksgiving. this year, however, we have it up already, lol. it was rather cold a few days ago and the kids were asking to put up some decorations. so we decorated the entire inside of our home & watched miracle on 34th street. the outside still has our fall decor up though, so i can only imagine when the babysitter comes tonight what a nutball she will think i am. plus, it's 80 degrees here today, so it looks especially ridiculous. oh well. we are enjoying it though. next week, we'll be at the beach for thanksgiving, so i am kind of glad it's already done inside. next year, i'll definitely revert back to our old tradition though and wait until after thanksgiving.
