Jean in Newcastle
Do you take an entire point off for spelling errors in Latin, 1/2 a point, or no points off? For example, ds14 might spell comites as cometes. He has the tense and the right word in his exercise but has mispelled it.
Ester Maria
Full point off. But I am "mean", I take a full point off if only for getting the ACCENT wrong in Greek, so... :tongue_smilie: Edited November 14, 2011 by Ester Maria
Teachaheart
I also am mean. :001_smile: I take a full point off for misspelling a Latin word.
Jean in Newcastle
Question addendum. I took full points off and now am having him do it all over again. So if you redo an exercise do any of the redo points add to his grade? (This it the first year that grades have counted for us since it is his first year of high school.) Melanie
I take a full point off for misspelling, but only test grades count towards the final course grade. By the time the test rolls around, any spelling issues have usually been ironed out.
Lang Syne Boardie
I'm also mean, because the standard here is all or nothing. Lessons are repeated until perfect. I only count grades for quizzes and tests. I think they need lots of room for lots of mistakes when they are first learning.

Yes, that is the way to handle it - it allows them a lot of room for mistakes which are an essential part of learning, but it does not handicap them.
