Mrs Twain
I have been starting to teach my kids piano with a music reading kit, but I need to switch to a different program that is specific for piano. I am looking at Faber Piano Adventures, but I can't figure out which level to get--Primer or Level 1. My kids are currently learning to read music a little bit on the Treble Clef and play at middle C. They have done a bit of writing with music theory acitivties, but that is about all. I am wondering if I should just start at level 1, or if level 1 would be too advanced... I would hate to buy all of the Primer books if they would be too simple since we have already covered some basic ground with music reading. Any advice? Dmmetler
Look at both books. Primer expects the kids to be reading in middle C and octave C positions in both treble and bass clefs and playing with both hands at least some of the time. I suspect it will be frustrating for a student who hasn't done a formal piano program yet.
learningmama
Faber's My First Piano Adventures series is really fun to go through. My dd did A-C then her teacher started her in Level 1. She has not liked Level 1 as much and is much harder for her. It's been slow going.
Mrs Twain
Thank you for the replies! I think I'll just get the Primer level and start from there.
Momling
What's the age of your kids? A good alternative if they're over 9 or 10 or so would be to do the Accelerated Piano Adventures for older learners. The first book covers the material in primer and level 1. It's not so playful, but it works fine. On the other hand, the videos for the primer level of Piano Adventures are pretty cool. It's my first time teaching piano and they've been useful!
