KarenC
Has anyone done such a thing? My oldest would like to take 1/2 credit of economics next year and 1/2 credit of government. I thought it would be interesting to compare various governments around the world. Any ideas on where to start? Thanks, Karen

Kareni
As I recently posted in another thread. My daughter used Charles Hauss' Comparative Politics: Domestic Responses to Global Challenges (I've linked the most recent edition) for an out of the home AP Comparative Gov't and Politics class. Her class also read many articles from the Economist magazine to be informed of breaking news on the world front. For summer reading the instructor had them read Robert Kennedy's Thirteen Days: A Memoir of the Cuban Missile Crisis, Wild Swans by Jung Chang, and Untapped: The Scramble for Africa's Oil by John Ghazvinian. Julie in MN
I don't know about the Politics book, but a couple of other things that might help: The Book of Rule, a DK book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0789493543/ref=oh_o00_s00_i01_details The CIA Factbook (online or in print) https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/ Julie
Kareni
Are there any other materials (online or a workbook) that go with the [Hauss] Comparative Politics book? There may well be, however, my daughter's instructor did not use any. If your oldest decides to take the AP exam, I'd recommend Ethel Wood's AP Comparative Government and Politics: A Study Guide, 3rd edition which my daughter found very useful in preparing for the exam. MommyThrice
PHC Prep is offering the Comp. Government AP class next year. My son can't wait to take it. He's taking their AP Engl. Lang class this year & they are incredibly organized. For economics, we used Economics in a Box, by Greg Rhemke. It is from an Austrian school of economic POV.
