1bassoon
I got word over the weekend - a dear, dear friend of mine (we were like sisters growing up) emailed me. Her sister-in-law (older brother's wife) had minor surgery last week. On Friday, she had a seizure due to a blood clot. Last night, friend emailed me that her sil wasn't going to make it. This morning, I just can't stop crying. Given up any hope of doing school today. Trying to figure out why this is so hard for me. I mean, I didn't really know my friend's sil - met her maybe 2 or 3 times. I was very close with my friend's family growing up. There are two young children (maybe 12 and 10?) that this mom has left. The only thing I can think - maybe this is it - my dd19 had surgery 6 or so weeks ago. I don't know. I'm just not functioning today.

AK_Mom4
Sometimes a loss far away reminds of the things close by that we would hate to lose. Just go with it. Cry it out. It's a normal reaction. Warm up the hot chocolate and marshmellows and send everyone off to read a good book. Tomorrow will be a better day. I agree - sometimes things just really hit us where it hurts, and we cannot explain why. Don't deny your emotions, as the poster above suggested, and go with it. Be kind to yourself.:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

1bassoon
Thanks, everyone. Really. I run such a tight schedule, that it's hard to give myself a day off. but I am. I have to. I'd serve up the hot cocoa, but it's 70 stinkin' DEGREES here in Alabama. :glare: Crazy. I think it's a combination of my dd's surgery, plus - this same friend lost her dad when she was 10 or 11 - a terrible car accident. So now - their family is going through a similar situation again. And I'm so far away, I can't DO anything.

Jean in Newcastle
I'm a mess whenever I hear or read about a mom dying and leaving kids who are still at home. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
