Scrub Jay
We are spending Thanksgiving at the Grand Canyon this year for the first time (it is also our 10 year wedding anniversary, hence the trip). Anyone here BTDT and want to share your experience? Thanks!
Denise in Florida
Have a wonderful anniversary. Just remember it will be COLD and probably snowy. Go prepared for bad weather.
Denise in Florida
Sorry ... I wanted to add that it will also be beautiful in the winter. But lots of people forget how high the altitude is and that the weather can be tricky. If you are prepared for cold you will have a great time. Random
I recommend taking a flight. It's a wonderful way to see the Canyon. The Imax movie is great, and you can get coupons at hotel lobbies. Will you do any hiking? Sedona is in the area, and is absolutely beautiful! Have a great time! ETA: Happy Anniversary!
Scrub Jay
Thanks ladies. We're visiting Sedona as well. Two night in the GC, one night in Sedona and then one night in Vegas (visiting the Hoover Dam) on the way home. I bet my DD would love the IMAX movie. Scrub Jay
Just bumping to see if anyone here has spent Thanksgiving at the GC and had their meal there, etc... What was your experience?
amey311
Not the GC, but DH and I were recently at the Hoover Dam. We took dam pictures but not the dam tour. There was a fee to park and then a separate fee for the visitors' center. Just to let you know about the costs associated with the place. CAMom
Thanks ladies. We're visiting Sedona as well. Two night in the GC, one night in Sedona and then one night in Vegas (visiting the Hoover Dam) on the way home. I bet my DD would love the IMAX movie. We've done Sedona and GC just a few days after Thanksgiving twice now. I agree with the PP that it will be cold! The first year we went, it was 9 degrees at the GC. The second time it was about 15 degrees. Be prepared for that temp. keeping in mind that the wind will blow right through to your bones. Sedona will be a little bit warmer. Our experience is in the 30's that time of the year. Sedona is one of our favorite spots ever! It is so incredibly beautiful! Have a great time but be prepared for the weather. :)
Scrub Jay
Yikes! That is cold. So far the weather is showing mainly in the 40s. I wonder how accurate that is. Amey, thanks for the heads up on the parking and entrance fees.
