ProudGrandma
I am planning on giving my daughter my camera for Christmas, and buying myself a newer one. The problem is I am going to want to have my newer one out and functioning Christmas morning (it will be the only one I have) so, how do I explain why I have a new camera and what happened to the old one...do I lie and say my old one broke and this is why I have a new one? What would you do??
MamaAkins
This is why my husband and I exchange presents with each other on Christmas Eve. Sometimes we want to have our new "toys" for Christmas morning! Seriously, we go to early service (Christmas Eve afternoon), then do family traditions and then the kids go to bed. Then we set up all the Christmas "stuff" under the tree. Then I go back to church for late services (11pm). Once I get home around 12:15 (Christmas Morning), we exchange gifts. This way we can focus on the kids on Christmas morning, but still enjoy exchanging gifts with one another. Some years we've only done stockings for each other. Some years we have gifts.
Do what the old advertisement said and mark the box "open me first".
ProudGrandma
I don't think I was clear...my camera isn't a gift...really....I am just going to buy it...but the old one for my daughter will be a gift for her. But, you see, if I wrap the camera for her, and I can't use my new one, then I don't have a camera to take pictures...but I don't know what to tell my kids as to what happened to my old camera (prior to Christmas morning.) Did that make anymore sense? So I am trying to figure out what story I am going to tell the kids as to why mom has a new camera and what happened to my old one. Starr
Why can't the new one be a Christmas present for you, the mama?
Farrar
If it was my kids, they totally wouldn't even question it. In fact, we're doing this with dh's iPhone as he's getting a new one because some of the features (which don't effect it working as a touch) aren't doing right. We'll turn the old one into a touch and load it with stuff for them for Christmas. But there's no way they'll even question it. And if they do, we'll just say it broke. Why would your dd even ask about it?

Wrap up the old camera last thing xmas eve, mark it "open me first", as soon as she opens it, you can explain the whole story, and you can use your new one.
