Disrupting Class by Christensen

Recommended Posts

Has anyone read this? According to the Kindle software, I'm 56% of the way through it.

So far the explanation for the way the 2nd stage of disruption will be played out is really starting to have me worried. We've LIVED through much of the 1st stage; my kids have taken a wide range of on-line classes. It has not been a smooth ride.

And the idea that this is going to be good? Not sure. Very not sure.

Has anyone read this? Pondered it?

Cause I'm starting to get my knickers in a knot.

Peace,

Janice

Oh Janice, just rock my already unstable little world, would you!:tongue_smilie:

I think I will have to read this. My oldest son is at home for his junior year. We are going through Connections Academy so that all the classes are accredited so that ds may return to his public high school.

I am learning to loathe all online education, I mean when there is little to no book work. My son, who found real classes distracting, is even more distracted with the online classes. I am also unconvinced that 6-7 hours a day of scrolling and reading online leads to greater retention and mastery of material. I'd like to hear your assessment of your online classes if you are willing to share.

My dd took an excellent English course from K12 last year, but it was her only online course and she had weekly interactions with the teacher, who was very good.

I'll raise you two on the knickers in a knot.:D

I have never heard of it, but you have piqued my curiousity. I personally detest online classes. Of the numerous (I don't even know if I can remember how many.....I just counted and off the top of my head I think combined the kids have taken about 15.) Of all of them, I have only liked a chemistry class, GBA's Socratic discussions (though I disliked everything else about the class other than the discussions), and the AoPS courses.

We have been hugely disappointed in the quality of online education. (and the CC online courses are a complete joke......What a waste of $$!! And I wasn't even counting them in the other #.......the online CC classes have been taken by my adult Aspie. If the online CC classes are an indication of where upper ed is headed, then we are in serious trouble as an educated society!)
