Bug's Mom
Maybe not quite what you're looking for, but we love this series: Physics: Why Science Matters and The Periodic Table: Elements With Style. There are more available, too. A friend of mine is a chemistry professor at the state college and LOVED the elements book.
Sherry in OH
We like the Primary Physical Science series by Adrienne Mason - http://www.amazon.com/Move-Motion-Primary-Physical-Science/dp/B005IUTDG4/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1320977811&sr=1-4 http://www.amazon.com/Change-Liquids-Primary-Physical-Science/dp/1553378385/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1320977880&sr=1-1 http://www.amazon.com/Touch-Materials-Primary-Physical-Science/dp/1553377613/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1320977903&sr=1-2 http://www.amazon.com/Build-Structures-Systems-Primary-Physical/dp/1553378369/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1320977919&sr=1-5 We also enjoyed Science Experiments with Simple Machines http://www.amazon.com/Science-Experiments-Machines-Paperback-Franklin/dp/0531154459/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1320977948&sr=1-3 and How Do You Lift a Lion http://www.amazon.com/How-Do-You-Lift-Lion/dp/0780779223/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1320978108&sr=1-1 There are quite a few Rookie Science Readers and some Let's Read and Find Out Science books that cover chemistry and physics topics. Guest tazmom3
Somewhere along the way we picked up The Cartoon Guide to Chemistry. There are other books in the series - Physics included. They aren't meant to be used as a curriculum, but they may work for helping to explain some concepts or for the more visual learner.
perky
The books included with the Science Wiz kits are quite visual and good. Science Wiz has Chemistry and Physics kits. Max Axiom graphic novels are very visual. They cover different physics and chemistry concepts.
kalanamak
What age? We liked Sally M Walker's various books (titles like Heat and Levers and Work and Electricity). She is better than the Rookie First Scientist series, unless you are talking about a 5 year old.
kalanamak
Don't forget these fun videos: http://www.physics.umn.edu/outreach/pforce/circus/ And these fab ones: http://www.periodicvideos.com/
Ritsumei
It's not a picture book, but I've been toying with doing "How Baking Works" with my sons. Haven't decided if I'd want to try it in 3rd grade or save it for middle school yet. But it's a cool book, with some hands-on stuff, and looks like it would be a nice intro to chem-type stuff with "chemicals" already in the house. My 5yo loves to cook with me, so that would make it even better. Plus, I want to do it myself...
Alte Veste Academy
Our favorite chemistry book is The Elements. Does it count as a picture book? My kids think so. :D Other favorites... Can You Feel the Force? It's Elementary!

MissKNG
Basher Books are a hit here! Even my small girl loves listening to them!
Amie
Our favorite chemistry book is The Elements. Does it count as a picture book? My kids think so. :D :iagree: I was going to post this one. I think it is meant for an older crowd, but my 4-5 year old has loved it and even the toddler will sit and look at the pictures. Check your library. foxbridgeacademy
I was also going to list "The Elements" ($17.21 on Amazon) but someone else beat me to it. The pics are amazing.... The kids don't know it but this is going to be one of their/my Christmas presents!

tammyw
Oh, if we're talking Christmas, have you seen this? :D This looks interesting! We just got "The Elements" from the library to see if we wanted to buy (big yes). These two books look like the perfect complement to each other! KristenR
What a timely thread. I just added some of the book suggestions to my (rapidly-growing) Amazon wishlist. Also, I recently did a fun activity with my girls as a soft introduction to the periodic table. Maybe it can help someone here.
Farrar
I missed this thread first go around, but first of all, clearly The Elements rocks and is absolutely a picture book. :D Secondly, my science posts are all about physics and chemistry so far and each one has book recommendations, almost all of them, which I mostly have listed here.
