joannqn
When I asked about living in a cold house, people mentioned have throws and blankets all over the house. Where do you put them when not in use? We have some throws and blankets that don't fit a bed, and they are always in the way. We have a couch and a love seat to sit 6 people. Often blankets are left on them, taking up seating space. If not on the couches, they are on the floor under the dog (soaking up dog stink) or badly folded and put somewhere in the living. It's driving me nuts.
DusksAngel
We have a hope chest in our room and we also store extra blankets in the top of bedroom closets. My mom used to buy under the bed storage boxes and store them there. ETA: I just realized you meant while they need to be out but not being used. Sorry! We put ours on the back of the couch or chair, or we will put them away if it doesn't seem like we'll need them very soon.
Denisemomof4
I *LOVE* the fleece throws. They are thin, fold up small, and are VERY warm! I have three of them folded one on top of the other and on the back of the couch. It looks like only one is there. I have bulkier blankets in one of the upstairs closets. keptwoman
Two places: 1/ rolled up and stacked in a shelf 2/ draped over the arms of chairs
The Girls' Mom
I have a big basket in the corner for ours. Sometimes they actually end up there. :tongue_smilie:
joannqn
What we have: 3 largish baby blankets, all different sizes 2 of those two-layer, tied-together fleece throws 1 wool camping blanket 1 twin-size quilt 1 twin-size thick wool blanket (DH's...it's big, bulky, and scratchy) 4 afghans made by my blind grandmother that are roughly the size of the top of a twin mattress and don't fold well or stay folded
kalanamak
Hang over back of couch or drape over couch's arms. Folded on the closet shelf. In a strip over the foot of the bed, and hanging from a hook on the back of a bedroom door.
AdamsFamily
Back of couch, stacked neatly on top of tray table set, on a quilt rack in bedroom, and folded neatly in two closets. My older dd loves to sleep with about three heavy blankets on her bed each night. I nag her constantly about folding them in the morning. I wish she would just use the bedspread and blanket already on her bed, but she prefers the heavier blankets. I end up folding the ones in the living room every night and returning them to where they are stored.
Cedarmom
baskets. Some days I fold and put them in nicely but most often they are just tossed in the basket. But since there in the basket it doesn't look messy, jjust cozy. At least that's my story.
ladydusk
I found a big, airy wicker basket at Goodwill for a couple of dollars. We throw them all in there when straightening up ... otherwise they lounge on the couches with assorted other flotsam and jetsam ...
Melissa in Australia
In the lounge room ( Living room?) I have a folded up crocheted rug on the back of each lounge chair, and a quilt across the back of the couch. That way they are handy for draping across legs in the evening, and are folded back up when the occupant of the chair gets up.
dirty ethel rackham
Since we got the dog, we can't leave them out or he will chew them. So, we are looking for one of those storage ottomans to hold them out of curious puppy's reach.
keptwoman
Oooh like the basket idea! Might do that for next winter, I bet they will make it there more often than folded where they currently live.
JaniceO
We have a wicker basket in the corner of the living room that is supposed to hold all of ours. Sometimes it actually does, lol.
Lisa in the UP of MI
At our old house we had a big basket in the living room filled with blankets. Now we just store most of them in the closet in our bedroom and keep just a few folded up on the back on the couch. I also have a pile next to toddler ds's bed, as I give him a different one depending on how warm it is. We make our beds every day so any extra blankets on our beds get straightened out to be used the next night.
Mrs Mungo
I have throws in my living room, but they "live" in a basket on the shelf. Some people put them on the back of the couch, tucked behind the cushion.
ChristusG
I like the idea of a basket to toss them into! Even though we're in FL, our living room gets quite chilly in the winter because of the wood floors...so the kids and I like to cover up with fleece blankets. mom2jjka
I have one of those quilt racks. It holds about 6 of the small fleece throws, and I found it at a rummage sale for $10. :001_smile:
6packofun
Dh and I keep ours folded and laying over the back of our chairs. The others are stored in our closet under the stairs where we keep board games and some coats. (There are shelves in there.)
Ellie
Folded neatly and hung over the back of the sofa and/or chairs.
KidsHappen
We have a large bin in the corner of the loft that holds the throws for that room. Each bedroom has a throw on the blanket and most couches, sofas and chairs have one drapped over it.
Crissy
My boys keep three or four of them folded at the end of their beds. We also have them on the backs of rocking chairs, office chairs and a small stack of them in the linen closet. The great thing about fleece throws is that they are so compact. We often go to plays in the park during the summer. Once the sun goes down it gets chilly, and I am able to pack four of them in a regular-sized fabric grocery bag. Just fold them length-wise several times then roll them right up.

SweetMissMagnolia
sometimes I'll keep a special one at the foot of the bed for our dog (she's slightly spoiled LOL)---if the others aren't being used they are in the hallway closet with the sheets/towels..... Annie G
We use a quilt rack. It easily holds 6 quilts, lap size through twin, which are the sizes we use to keep warm while just sitting around.
Myeightkiddies
I have one that feels just as if it were a teddy bear. Because it is so nice I keep it folded in a basket so that I don't risk my chihuahua burrowing into it (if it was on the couch or back of the couch). However, a little while ago I looked and my chihuahua is burrowed in it - on the basket.
justamouse
I have baskets in every room. A lot of times they're on the couches, but when we 'clean up' they get folded and put into a pretty basket.
KristyND
I bought two storage ottomans at Target, love them! The tops flip over and can be either a coffee table type surface or a padded seat.
vonfirmath
We pretty much always have at least 1 blanket over the back of the couch. Sometimes two. Another blanket on our master bed. Another on DS's bed.
Swimtaxi234
Ours get folded and placed on the fireplace hearth (fireplace never gets used). Since it got cold today, most of the blankets were used and left on the sofas, but I'll fold them before I go to bed since it makes the room look so tidy and that always makes me smile in the morning. :D
Annie
I pinned this on Pinterest a couple weeks ago thinking it might work for holding blankets.

Mergath
When I took the sliding side off of my dd's crib- it's a convertible that turns into a daybed- I turned it so that the bars are horizontal, propped it up against the wall in her room, and use it to hang several of our extra blankets. I had to scold dd several times to stop using it as a ladder, of course. :tongue_smilie:
2squared
We have this problem except our very cold living room doesn't have enough seating for our entire family. We have blankets for everyone, pillows for those who have to sit on the floor, and a bean bag. Storing these things used to drive me crazy, but now we just throw them in the space between the couch, loveseat, and walls. It's an unused, out-of-sight corner in perfect proximity to where the items are used. Even my 3yo can throw her stuff into the corner, so I don't have to think about folding blankets all day long. Desert Rat
Ours are in a wicker basket in the living room. I roll them up so they fit better.
