Tipping on vacation

Recommended Posts

No, no cleaning fee.

Well, I take that back, we could opt for actual cleaning service during the week if we wanted it, but that would have been an added fee.

In the past I have left $7. I didn't know if that was too little or too much.

I'd leave $1-2/day, contingent upon how much mess we were (or weren't) leaving.

I've always worked in customer service jobs, though, so I always tip.

We have a condo in a "destination city" that we rent out. We do have a cleaning fee, but it's not like the cleaner sees any of that (outside of the agreed upon wage, which - is probably fair, I don't know, but still. I feel better about leaving the actual cleaner a little "thank you" because heaven knows, I hate cleaning up at home and I can spare the $10-20 to thank someone else for taking over for a week. Even if it's just once that week when we're leaving!)

From talking with 'our' cleaners, most people don't tip but they're always appreciative when someone does. $5-10 could buy a nice lunch, you know? $20 could buy the family dinner for a night, and lessen someone's home load. It's less the amount than the thought that counts, it seems.

This makes sense. I haven't been a real vacation in a long time. I'm generally a good tipper (20% +) with other service jobs. You've made me rethink this and I will keep this in mind the next time I can budget for a vacation. Thanks.

Thank you. Yes, that makes a lot of sense.

I will leave a good tip, I have $11 in cash sitting here, maybe I can get a bit more when we go out tonight.
