plansrme
We attended the open house of the STEM magnet program at our local high school. They distributed a list of AP scores scored by the Class of 2011 on AP exams taken in their sophomore, junior and senior years. They claim to have the highest pass rate in the state (Georgia). I thought these might provide some comfort to those of you who are doing AP at home, so below are several exams with the number of students who scored 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1, respectively. I have stats for all of the exams, so if I do not include one, feel free to ask: Eng. Language: 22/31/29/5/0 Eng. Lit. Comp.: 1/410/4/1 Macro Econ: 10/28/9/6/0 Micro Econ: 25/20/4/1/0 Psych: 15/15/3/1/0 World Hy: 9/30/29/14/1 Calc AB: 1/0/3/0/5/9 Calc BC: 41/5/6/0/0 Chem: 5/10/13/2/3 Physics B: 1/1/4/2/0 Physics C: 6/6/1/1/0 Biology: 15/20/17/14/3 Overall: 202/241/175/76/17 Terri
snowbeltmom
Those are really good stats. My public school does not come close to those numbers. Each school receives a report from the College Board titled, "The College Board Summary Report" each year. While my local school does not publicize the report, by law, they must provide the document if a parent requests a copy.
They claim to have the highest pass rate in the state (Georgia). Not to disparage this particular school, but I'm struck by the "Lake Wobegon syndrome", where every local school manages to find itself tops in the state/nation at something... Joan in GE
I have stats for all of the exams, so if I do not include one, feel free to ask: I'm curious about another stat - if they made everyone who took the course take the exam? (as that could also change their stats)
plansrme
I'm curious about another stat - if they made everyone who took the course take the exam? (as that could also change their stats) No idea on this one. I saw no mention of that requirement, though. Keep in mind that this is a magnet program students, not the entire school, although the students said that their math and science AP classes were comprised almost entirely of magnet students. Sunshine State Sue
Those are really good stats. My public school does not come close to those numbers. :iagree: I am attempting to post the scores for our local HS as an attachment because I can't get copy/paste from a PDF to work. They even have an IB program, though I don't know if the IB students take AP classes. This really ought to provide comfort. Just to compare, GA magnet 3+ is 87% and 4+ is 62%. SPHS 3+ is 54% and 4+ is 26%. County-wide 3+ is 42%. Impressive, eh? They now make all the students who take AP classes take the AP test. They didn't used to. Don't get me started on the correlation (or lack thereof) between the student's report card grade and AP exam score. Edited November 11, 2011 by Sue in St Pete
