PeterPan
What do you put in in your cookie jars at Christmas? :) I have two beautiful cookie jars I want to put out, and my dh is gonna DIE if I put them out empty. If it can't be healthy, then maybe semi-healthy? elfgivas
could you put popcorn kernels in one? for a hot air popcorn popper? and in the other you could try some tasty and healthy baking things... http://www.quakeroats.com/cooking-and-recipes/content/recipes/recipe-detail.aspx?recipeId=680 for christmas these would be yummy with dried cranberries but we put in one cup of chocolate chips for special occasions. we also tweak it by using whole wheat flour (no one can taste the difference), and all brown sugar. you would never know they are anything but delicious. and because of the oats and the whole wheat, they are filling, too! hth, ann
Rich with Kids
Partially dipped pretzel sticks? I'm not sure how big your jar is, but you could drizzle just a bit of chocolate on some pretzels, just to make them look festive. Chex mix bars? Is that a thing? Here's another one...I know these look like they have a lot of chocolate on them, but that's something you can control. (or maybe it isn't...:tongue_smilie:)
justamouse
We eat healthy all year. Holidays there is a no healthy rule. BUT, I can only go so far. My body just cannot tolerate fake fats, too many sweets or lack of veggies. So even my eat cookies all month is balanced. :D
PeterPan
Justamouse--Hehehe, my dd is in love with you! :) Daisy--You have a winner! You've filled the first jar. Now I have one more big one and a small one. No, I don't know how I ended up with so many. I must just have a thing for cookies. Actually I do, that's why I needed to ask for alternatives. I have no self-restraint with cookies. :)

How fun, thanks!! :)

You can make perfectly healthy cookies. It is all in the type of ingredients you use. Use Rapadura or maple syrup instead of white sugar or, arrowroot flour or buckwheat instead of white, refined flour. Many recipes can be adapted with just a few changes. Rosie_0801
Christmas is Christmas. Put your favourite tasty treats in the cookie jar! I'm all in favour of healthy, but at Christmas time I make my fabulous cake and happily enjoy all the eggs, butter, condensed milk, sugar etc. :drool5: What's a festival if it tastes the same as an ordinary day? An ordinary day that required more effort, that's all! Rosie
missmoe
Health nut here. We put cookies in the cookie jars! There is a time and a place for everything, and Christmas is the time for cookies!
PeterPan
Y'all are such a bad influence, hehe! Does it make any difference that we're putting our Christmas decorations up NOW? LOL Dd is on a decorating kick and has the music going, decorations out, you name it. The cookie jars appeared, and I'm thinking 2 months of cookies and naughtiness would probably push us over the top. A day or a week yes, but not two months. :)

cjzimmer1
I don't have an actual recipe but I had some "breakfast cookies" once. I played around and made a recipe (which I have since lost) but it had peanut butter, oats, mashed bananas, eggs, maybe applesauce (I can't remember for sure) and then dried fruit or if you feel like splurging chocolate chips. There was a little bit of sugar in it but it was only like 1/2 cup per 24 cookies. Here's a few ideas (I haven't really looked at them to determine healthfulness but they looked pretty good when I googled). http://simple-nourished-living.com/2010/08/breakfast-cookie-recipes/ http://www.eatbetteramerica.com/recipes/healthified/healthified-oatmeal-peanut-butter-breakfast-cookies.aspx http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/best-breakfast-cookie/detail.aspx

Medieval Mom
Wow, that's really different! What are they like? And do you use a food processor or the Champion juicer or something different? They are delicious! They are slightly chewy, moist, sweet--- and no one suspects (at my house;)) that they aren't full of 2 sticks of butter and 2 c. brown sugar. :D I used a food processor. Now I'm getting hungry for them myself!

I found them at Walmart tonight. Peanut butter is healthy, right? They also have their whole nuts out in bulk, so we got some of those and things to make trail mix. Now we're good to go! Thanks for all the help!!!!!! :)
Chrystal
Homemade LaraBars. Dates, nuts, chocolate, and peanut butter pureed in the food processor and pressed into a parchment lined sheet pan and refrigerator and then cut into bars. OrganicAnn
I would wait until about a week before Christmas and then put them out with real, full of fat and sugar, nuts, chocolate, decadent cookies. If you eat healthy all year, then you deserve a treat at Christmas. A day after Christmas I would clean up the crumbs and put the cookie jars away.
