MamaBearTeacher
Over the past couple of days the surface of my son's molars are all a brown-gray color. He might have chewed on black paper or magazine paper but I don't think he did. I tried scrubbing them with a toothbrush and it did not come out at all. He has some reflux which has gotten worse over the past few months. Could it have rotted his teeth suddenly? The reflux has not been bad the past week. It's only the surface of all his molars but not the front or sides of any teeth. I have been giving him some watered down pure pomegranate juice this past week. Could that have stained the surface of his molars? If it's a stain, what will take it out? I would rather not go to the dentist because my son has special needs and does not cooperate and the dentist will want to sedate him. I am very worried that his body would react very badly to sedation. Please, any knowledge or advice?
QuirkyKapers
I couldn't say but :grouphug: as you figure it out. It would seem like if was Pomegranate Juice that it would be gone in a few days. How long have you stopped the juice? Is he complaining that his back teeth hurt?
MamaBearTeacher
I gave him some pomegranate juice yesterday afternoon. His teeth are not hurting him at all. Would they hurt if they were just rotting a little?
QuirkyKapers
My friend's son had his teeth become rotten pretty quickly. They started out where they were more sensitive and than began to hurt. That is how she figured out something was up.
Rebecca VA
No advice about the little guy's teeth, but pomegranate juice is really good mixed with lemonade. I put about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of pomegranate juice into a 12-ounce glass and then fill it up with lemonade.
jennsmile
How old? My oldest at 4 1/2 got really bad decay and we ended up with major work on several teeth. I would take him in at least for a cleaning. Find a dentist that will work with your son. We had an awful one that wouldn't let me be with my children during treatment and did work without talking to me or telling me, then expected me to pay. My current dentist is a dream. She lets us sit with the kids and is awesome even with our little one. She will even look at my child's tooth and check to see if he really needs the work or if it can wait. Which I love. MamaBearTeacher
He is 7 1/2. What do they do if the teeth rot? Do they have to take them out and get false teeth?
jennsmile
If they are baby teeth they do a root canal and put on a silver cap. (they call it something different but it is the same procedure.) If it isn't to bad they do fillings. My son needed 3 silver caps. And some fillings. He has been fine since.
MamaBearTeacher
Is there a way I could tell if it was a stain or tooth decay just by looking? I'm feeling so overwhelmed by everything going on in our lives right now. I don't need one more thing to worry about.

I understand that you feel overwhelmed right now but from my way of looking at it, this is too important of an issue to leave to internet advice. At the very least I'd at least take a picture or video (can you make it a game?) and run it by the office for the dentist to take a look. elfgivas
fwiw, when dd age 12 had that happen after eating pomegranite seeds, i used the crest whitening strips that were in our drawer, and it looked better after the first treatment, and much better after the second one. could he handle the whitening strips better than a trip to the dentist? it could be a fast and easy way to find out if you really need to put both of you thru a dentist's visit..... hth, ann
