melissel
While I would LOVE to get them each one of the big AG armoires, there's no way we could (or would!) pay that kind of money. One has a trunk and one has a basket, but they're overflowing those already, and they're due to get more AG supplies this Christmas. Does anyone have a creative way to keep all the AG stuff together and neat, or am I pretty much just resigned to buying new, bigger baskets for them? TIA! dangermom
We took a large Rubbermaid tub, cut holes near the handles, inserted a dowel, and cut out one of the sides. Voila, cheap wardrobe! You can make hangers for it by snipping the ends off of child-size hangers.
silliness7
I inherited some metal towel racks that stand on the floor. It's got 3 thin rods to hang towels and a metal basket at the bottom. It's gold-colored. I'm not sure if I'm describing it well. Anyway, they are miserable towel racks because generally I need towel storage for wet towels to dry out for next use. These were more for guest towel storage. AAANNNNYYYWAY!!:001_smile: They are perfect for hanging up doll clothes. I use baby hangars, the cheap kind from wal-mart as we only have a couple of AG hangars. Then I put a basket in the bottom part to hold shoes and stuff that won't hang. MrsMommy
Target has armoires similar to the AG ones on sale right now...I think they're $45 each or so? They're part or the Our Generation line. They're still not cheap, but the reviews of them are actually more positive than the AG ones, and we're probably going to get them for our girls because they seem nice and sturdy, and will look nice in their room. Beach Mom
For the clothes we used the plastic drawers that stack and come in sets of 3 at Walmart. Initially each drawer held two outfits with accessories. It kept the shoes, tights, hair bow etc. with the dress it belonged too and was big enough to lay the dress in without wadding it up. We added sets of drawers as her collection grew. Eventually she had 15 drawers categorized Sports Outfits, Hats, Colonial clothes etc. It did help keep the outfits organized, but we still had a laundry basket with all of the bigger things such as the horse, chair etc.
zaichiki
Not real neat... but dd uses an old luggage (the type with the wheels you pull behind you) to store her AG clothes/shoes/accessories. Easy to stuff the stuff in and zip shut. :D
kht2006
We have an our generation cabinet. Love it! It holds lots of stuff! My MIL keeps the American Girl stuff at her house in a popcorn tin from Christmas. It's OK, but the girls dump it out to find things they need. Thank you Thank you!!! This is exactly what I have been looking for! DD is slowly building up a rather large AG collection and the clothes have been driving me (and her) nuts. She made her own wardrobe out of a box and rod (it's pretty cute, too!) but it doesn't fit all of her things. Looks like I know what she is getting for Christmas! My3Monkeys
I've heard of people converting old jewelry armoires from thrift shops into storage for AG clothes.
nukeswife
We also have the My generation one from target. My dd loves it and it does hold quite a bit.
