milovany
I'm wanting to put together a collection of DVDs that we only have out during the 12 days of Christmas ~ care to help me? I'm thinking "Winter/Christmas" movies. I'll start: 1. It's a Wonderful Life. There, now what? :tongue_smilie:(Just being cheeky -- I know there are obvious ones, but I'm open to more obscure ones too.) I'm envisioning family movie night, hot chocolate, popcorn, etc. Edited November 6, 2011 by milovaný
silliness7
We like Miracle on 34th St. (the new one) Elf Santa Clause Home Alone The Grinch (has some crude humor so may not work for every family)
Ellie
Jack Frost, Santa Claus (an oldie, 80s, I think, with John Lithgow and Dudley Moore), The Santa Claus, Miracle on 34th Street (Natalie Wood), Christmas With the Kranks, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, Claymation Christmas, The Homecoming (Waltons), White Christmas (of course!), Elf (of course!!)....what's that one with Tom Hanks?? Then there are the really unlikely ones, like Princess Bride, Better Off Dead, and Hook. :D ETA--Polar Express--that's the one (with Tom Hanks) I was thinking of (and was too lazy to go out and look up, lol). Also, we've watched probably every adaptation of A Christmas Carol, and we still prefer the one with George C. Scott over any other. "Scrooged" with Bill Murray is fun, but I'm not sure it's family friendly. EETA: how could I forget Home Alone??? milovany
A Christmas Story ( not Christmas in our house if we don't watch this) Do you mean this movie? If so, is the one you have seen dubbed? Is that distracting? It seems like a good story ... ETA -- Oh! You probably mean the one of "you'll shoot your eye out" fame <blush>

LidiyaDawn
Santa Claus - The Movie (not the Tim Allen ones - although those are funny) and Gremlins are two that we always watch --- Gremlins isn't 'technically' a Christmas movie, but it is. (not for littles though - good for about 10/11 and up, as long as they don't still believe in Santa because there's a spot that will spoil that for them) Oh and all the older clay things… Rudolph, Santa Claus is coming to town… and 'Twas the Night Before Christmas -- it's the one with the mouse and the clock. emzhengjiu
It may be more for Epiphany, but we watch "The Fourth Wise man" every year during the Christmas season. Ann
Carol in Cal.
My all time favorite Christmas movie is really just a short video. It is "Red Boots For Christmas" and it is an animated version of a lovely old German Christian folk tale. It is just wonderful. We do watch "A Charlie Brown Christmas" most years. As a parent, I get goosebumps when Linus starts reciting Luke 2. Funny story, when DD first watched this, she was 3 or 4. We borrowed the video and I settled down with her to watch it, thinking that this would be the first of a long series of such viewings, establishing a wonderful family tradition. However, not so. After the first 3 minutes or so, DD stood up in outrage and proclaimeded, "Those children are not nice to each other. This is not a story that is right for Our Family." I thought that since this was a righteous view, I should honor it; so I turned it off and we didn't watch it that year.

gardenmom5
I love all the inside coincidences of It's a wonderful life. George wants to build things, but wasn't even able to go to college. Jimmy Stewart had a degree in architecture from Princeton. Harry is a fighter pilot - Jimmy Stewart commanded b-52 bomber squadron's over germany. after 20 missions, he told them to stop counting. charlie brown's christmas we're no angels - Humphrey Bogart Muppet's Christmas Carol Christmas Carol - I like the George C. Scott version Miracle on 34th st. - Original with Natale Wood. The Christmas Card (kinda chickflickish. My girls and I like it. ;p) The Best Christmas Pagent Ever - Loretta Swit Waltons: The Homecoming (haven't seen it in years, but it was very good) Christmas in Connecticut (original is better, remake has its moments) One special night - James Garner, Julie Andrews the Ultimate gift - James garner (pure and total sap tearjerker with a good message.) The Christmas Wish - Debbie Reynolds The Gathering - Edward Asner I'm surprised no one has mentioned the classics: White Christmas Bell's of St. Mary's eta: I loved the littlest angel whenI was a child. (I coudn't remember the name. I bought it last year, and it promptly disappeared for six months) The Family Man (Not for young children, but it is an interesting twist on "It's a Wonderful Life") :iagree: it is an interesting twist, and a good message. definitely NOT for littles. (ETA: I probably wouldn't allow 'tweens and ended up getting rid of my copy because I was so disappointed in the stuff they really didn't need to go overboard on, but did.) RegGuheert
The "Silent Night" movie looks good!Yes, I really like that movie. It's supposed to be a true story! I'm sorry about the link, I didn't realize it had spoilers. What an awful plot description! Totally devoid of the feeling of the movie! I should note that the movie has some extremely intense scenes, but even my youngest children watch it. They avoid the bad language that goes with most war movies. I'd be interested in the rest of your list, too.O.K. You asked for it!! I'll try to just add what was not already mentioned. I'm sorry if there are any duplicates. The Brady Bunch - Season 1 Disc 2 - The Voice of Christmas Holiday Treats - This is a collection of like seven episodes of Christmas specials from old black-and-white TV shows. J-rap
Our top five are: It's a Wonderful Life A Christmas Carol (with George C. Scott) White Christmas The Muppet Christmas Carol Little Women (Little Women isn't really a Christmas movie, but there are lovely Christmas scenes in it, and much of it takes place in the winter, so we always watch it at Christmastime.)
