How do you schedule Singapore Math?

We did 2a text and workbook. We just finished. Now, we are going through the IP and CPW for a month before we move on. It is working well for is. I tried mixing all four books, but It was too much immediate repetition for DS. He was getting bored. This way, we jad a break from addition and now we get some review.

We're kinda random ;) We do the text and workbook (though if it's an easy topic, we don't do all of the workbook) and then we move to the IP for follow up. With the CWP, we pull it out once or twice a week and do a few questions from it. We don't really follow a "schedule" for two reasons 1) in some areas my son moves more quickly than others, so that's hard to schedule in advance 2) some parts of the CWP are much harder than others, and it takes more time/days to tackle them 3) we school year round, so we don't have any trouble finishing the books.

I don't generally align the topics by intention. In part so the IPs and CWPs serve as a "change of pace," and in part because they then serve as topical review.

There have been exceptions to the general rule.

That is what I was thinking of doing, in essence use them for a change and review.

Do you do them at a level behind where you are in the regular books?

More or less on the same level. Depends. This year we got a little ahead in the Textbook/Workbooks, so we are on to 3B Workbook/Textbook without finishing (or even making that big a dent in) the 3A IP. It will, I expect, get finished over winter-break (as we are "after-schoolers") and will have more time then. The IP 3B will probably be started before we finish the core 3B, but finished later.

Level 3 has had some more procedurally difficult work, like long-division and fractions, so I'm not hearing much "this is too easy" complaint (the cure for which is breaking out IPs/CWP).

I try to keep a good feel for where my child is at the moment, and improvise when it comes to what to tackle next based on that, rather than making a firm schedule. We do get it all done and this sort of improvised scheduling (with general goals) has worked for us.

I do think this approach helps provide review and a change of pace, which works for my kid.
