LarlaB
This is DH's grandma and we are not particularly close, however we are living closer (actually in same state now) so she see's our kiddos occasionally. Her daughter (DH's aunt) is hosting an 'evening party' at her home complete with cocktails etc. There is enormous tension & bad feelings in the family (we have nothing to do with it) and so a group gift is out.... as half the family isn't going. She is a sweet lady, but not a good/healthy mother (narcissistic personality disorder- NPD) and a pretty rough grandma to DH & other cousins. Anyway- we want to take her something, but have NO idea what to get. I don't have a recent family picture otherwise, I'd simply frame it. Can't do sentimental stuff because of the major issues in play, and am just at a loss. Need something generic but thoughtful- LOL. Ideas? Random
A nice book (or audio book?) and a warm blanket and slippers for long winter evenings? A handmade card from the kids with 80 things they like about grandma? Does she have hobbies you could support with a gift? A monogrammed sweater? A charm bracelet with your kids' birthstones? Good luck! It's so hard when there is family tension. :grouphug:
peachskittles
I'd take a picture of the kids on my digital camera, run to Wal-Mart (or wherever) and get it printed out, buy a frame for it and give it as a gift...
Lara in Colo
You know those bean/rice --whatever-- microwave heating pads? We love this one (and bought it for DH's GM) http://www.coloradowarmingcompany.com/BackLegs.htm They make great house shoes that heat up too

elise1mds
If she's technologically savvy at all, what about an electronic picture frame? You could pre-add a few pictures and make sure the instructions are very clear about how to add more so she can add photos of other folks from the family. One of my grandmothers loves her e-frame. Samiam
Most people at that age are on very limited incomes. Why not get a a treat, like flowers, but also something needed, like a gift card to a grocery store, or Wal-mart?
