JudoMom
I've had ds7 (8 in January) do Plaid Phonics A & B, and he's been working through C. I count this as spelling (he reads very well and doesn't need phonics). He hates it. Hates it, hates it, hates it. To get him to do it is like pulling teeth. Actually, if I let him pick between doing Plaid Phonics or me pulling his teeth, he'd probably opt for the teeth. I've got a 50% off coupon for B&N. I'm considering taking him there and letting him pick out his own spelling workbook. Is this a bad idea? I would just start Sequential Spelling with him, but I need his spelling to be fairly independent this year.
abbeyej
Go for it. ;) Independent spelling for a 7yo isn't going to do a lot for him either way anyway, so let him pick something he likes! (Ok, that sounds more negative than I mean it. Um. I don't mean that quite. If he's going to be a naturally good speller, the workbook is probably unnecessary, but it'll give him some work to do while you work with the others.)
