TheAutumnOak
I am wondering if there is a big difference between year 1 and the remaining years of TOG?...If you found a difference (besides covering a different part of history :tongue_smilie:), what was the difference?...I have heard that year 1 is not the same as the rest and I don't want to come to a "big surprise"... Guest
I posted a link to the Lampstand recent newsletter here, explaining what the differences are between the Year 1 and the other Year plans and the reasons why Lampstand is revising (or better yet, updating) Year 1 again. That said, there are some differences, like for example the time period covered in Year 2 and also the books involved in the later years (many more ;)). This is the main reason why I have decided to use Year 2 for two years, rather than one. It depends also, I think, on what you decide to use from the Year plans. I was going to leave SOTW for UG since we use the majority of the LG primary books, and do it in one year, but especially with year two covering a large period in history, I have decided instead to do it in two years and continue using SOTW as a supplemental resource. This means that we will only be doing two cycles, which is fine with me since I have science kids on my hands and I hate bogging them down with things that will not be their primary interest ;). I think the best way to answer your question is to buy the Year plan first, or... if you are unsure whether you will continue with TOG, just download the Year 2 sample and check the contents and books used in Year 2. For LG for example, there are about 40 books on the primary list for the Year 1 plan and about 80 for the Year 2 plan. TOG is very flexible in that YOU chose what you want to include or exclude based on what YOU want to do with YOUR kids. If TOG works for you as a tool then I think you will figure it out along the way. At least this is how I am approaching TOG ;) but TOG is a long term investment in our home so I am determined to find a way to make it work for us :). Hope this helps in some way! freesia
Anyone else? I'm interested, too. Anne
Guest
If you don't get the answers you are looking for, perhaps a better place to ask would be the TOG forums. They do not have as much traffic as these forums but Dana and Marcia are always good at answering many of the questions and concerns people have.
