need writing suggestion....but only a short thing

Recommended Posts

My son didn't finish Writing Tales 1 last year. So, he will finish up sometime in February 2012. I was planning on the WWS series for next year if it's out. But I don't want him to not write all spring....any suggestions for a short writing program to flesh out Mar/April/May..maybe June? This is a boy who doesn't like writing. So I can't just let him do nothing...he needs a guided thing to keep him going. :tongue_smilie: So something that is 10-15 weeks long?? Any ideas?

Wordsmith Apprentice has 63 short daily assignments, it would be easy to finish in 15 weeks and it is very boy friendly. It is student directed, he takes on the role of a newspaper reporter. Actually, I could see your DS really enjoying this! Most of the writing is done right in the book, but I know a great store in Raleigh that sells it if you are up for a roadtrip.

Write With the Best has 9 units that are designed to take 2 weeks each. This is more "meaty" than Wordsmith Apprentice, designed for grades 3-12.

Paragraph Town (MCT) can be done in 10 weeks, but the grammar exercises may be slightly confusing because some of the labels are different than FLL (though there are many families here who use both, and it may be interesting to see if he remembers from however many years ago LOL).

Writing Strands Level 2 (listed as ages 7+) has 15 assignments, each designed to take a week, I think.

If you want to see any of these in person let me know. :)
